broken cam & dog taxi service - 07:25 PM
the cam completely crapped itself yesterday .. did you see? i was almost ready to walk out the door to go to work. i was training the cam on my cow to keep you company in the day & suddenly the focus wouldn't adjust. originally, the focus adjustment was really tight. in fact, we didn't even realise that it existed at first it was so tight to move (okay, so who ever reads the instructions?). anyway, suddenly it was really loose & just wasn't focusing on anything. talk about annoying & frustrating!
i spoke my shroom from work during the day & he said that he'd look after it. when i got home in the afternoon, he was trying to fix the cam. he'd called the tech support number (& this is the bit i can't believe) & the guy had told him to take the camera apart & to try to fix it himself!! i can't believe that a tech guy would tell someone to do that!! i mean, doesn't that completely void the warranty? anyway, it's not that i didn't think shroom was up to the task (he's very clever you know), i was just amazed that this guy actually told him to do that.
there were three parts that had dropped out of the cam (some sort of focusing & colour, fish-eye looking things) that we couldn't figure out which order to put back in. they'd kind of dropped out when my honey took it apart. we spoke to tech support again but obviously no one knew anything about the workings of the camera because they didn't have a clue. sheesh!! you'd think they could have grabbed a screwdriver & pulled apart their own cam to tell us which way these stupid things went back in.
anyway, one guy finally ended up saying to take it back to where we got it from & get it replaced. yeah right, good on you, harvey norman! they wouldn't exchange it or anything like that, they have to send it back to d-link who'll then assess it & blah blah blah & we'll hear back by monday .. heard that before. last time we had something sent back to the manufacturer (our intel motherboard) it took about three months to come back. i don't blame the resellers, it seems that the big manufacturers just don't think about the poor person at the end of the line waiting for months & months to get their product back.
shroom told me to pick another cam & regardlesss of the outcome (if we get a replacement of the original, or a credit or whatever), well, we wanted to get three cams in the end anyway. we might just end up with three sooner than we thought too, because my sweetheart ordered another cam before he started looking at fixing the broken one. so we have the new one, the one on order & perhaps the original one back next week. all's well that ends well?
today at work was interesting. i was a taxi for a dog .. really! a youngish looking staffie wandered onto the grounds of the service station dragging a chain behind him. one of the costomers patted him & told me that he had a name 'rebel' & a phone number on his collar. he tried the number but only got the answering machine so he tied the dog up & gave me the number so i could write down the mobile number that was mentioned at the end of the message. he then went on his way.
the doggie wasn't very keen on being tied up .. i guess that's part of the reason he escaped from home. he got off the chain about three times while he was at the service station. one time he walked right into the shop! the people waiting there looked rather surprised. anyway, i rang the number & left a message after i took down her mobile phone number & then rang that but nobody answered. about five minutes later though, she called. as soon as it rang i knew it was going to be the dog's owner. she wasn't able to pick him up until 5:30 that afternoon & when i was talking to her it wasn't even 2pm.
i wasn't keen on keeping the dog chained up for hours like that & i couldn't just let him go either, not right on a highway, he could get hit by a car! i ended up getting her address & got the okay from my boss to take the dog there. it was pretty cool, i felt like i was on a rescue mission.
he was a pretty nice dog, very well behaved & so very friendly too. i tied him back up in the yard & rubbed his belly while i had a little talk with him about how my doggie could learn from him about how to be so well behaved.
