digital camera & more on grandma - 08:35 PM
we bought a digital camera yesterday! yay! i haven't really gone anywhere to use it yet but how about i show you a couple of the good ones that i took while playing around with it? click here to go to the photolog (hit 'back' on your browser afterwards to return to the diary entry) to see a pic of shroom posing for the camera & a close up of the magic dog.
later the same day ..
this afternoon i went with my mum to visit grandma in the hospital. yesterday she was very sick. she was basically non compos mentis. today she didn't remember any of yesterday. she didn't know that people were really worried about her. she didn't know that she was so very sick. she was awake, but nobody could really get any response out of her. anyway, today she was much better than yesterday, still suffering from a fever of 39 degrees celcius, but not as bad as yesterday when her temperature was over 40 degrees. normal body temperature should be around 36 or 37 degrees, so a few degrees doesn't sound like a lot but that sort of temperature can actually kill you. the nurse said that your body can go into septic shock. i'm not sure what that is, but i'm pretty sure that it's not a good thing.
it was really sad seeing grandma so sick the way she is. raymond (grandma's boyfriend, read back a few days to find out who he is if you don't already know) has been at the hospital every day since he arrived. basically turns up in the morning & stays there all day. i'm so glad that he's there for her. you should see how worried he looks .. the poor man. it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
she hasn't been eating, only a spoonful here or there, but they've been bringing her food anyway in case she wants to eat. raymond was trying to convince her to eat. asking her if she'd like some of the soup, or the custard with fruit. she'd say no every time. finally she said she'd have some of the custard, so he had to spoon feed her like a baby. she's too weak to hold a spoon or even to sit up. she managed to eat about two sips from the spoon but then said that it was enough. raymond kept making serious & sometimes almost angry words to her (i don't know what he was saying because he speaks only german & french). i can see that he wants desperately for her to be better & wants her to eat so that her body can recover. all of it is just so very sad. twice i almost cried.
