three weeks holiday - 04:45 PM
my trip to sydney & melbourne was well worth it. i spent some fantastic quality time with my sister & got to know my two little nieces again. while i was there i went to visit a couple of friends & enjoyed their company too.
in melbourne i spent an excellent few days catching up with my best friend ever, sheryn. we figured out that we've known each other for twenty years, now .. that's pretty amazing. i don't feel that old, let alone having known someone for that long!
what i thought was my wonderful morning sickness cure, the red cordial, only worked for about two days. i kept trying, as sometimes the sugar content seems to settle my tummy a little bit, but in the end, i went to the chemist to get something to try to help. i ended up with something from blackmores, a herbal remedy containing ginger & vitamin b6, which has been keeping the morning (all day) sickness mostly under control. i still feel a bit bleah at times, but it's a huge improvement on when i was taking nothing.
i can't wait for this first trimester to be over. that's how long they reckon morning sickness usually lasts for. i'm nine weeks pregnant now, & if you count a pregnancy as forty weeks, which is the usual way of doing it, then the first trimester will go for twelve to thirteen weeks. only three or four more weeks to go.
along with the morning sickness, i hope that this incredible pickiness with food goes away. i'm finding it so damn hard to feed myself. you know when you have a variety of foods on offer & you just don't feel like some of it? well, it's like that, but with a vengeance. if i don't feel like a particular food, then i really don't feel like it. in fact, i can barely stand even looking at it. i have to turn away. it's making it very difficult to figure what to eat.
as for meat, i can hardly stand the thought of it. i'm not a big meat eater anyway, except for chicken every now & then, but now i can't even stand that. monica (my sister) cooked some really nice chicken shish-kebabs one night for dinner, but after i put a piece of chicken in my mouth & started to chew, i had to spit it out & throw it in the bin. i just couldn't handle it. there was nothing wrong with the chicken at all, my body just said, "there is no way you're eating that!"
after a rather horrid session talking on the porcelain telephone, i learned to listen to my body & not eat what it tells me not to eat.
mind you .. even the things that i can eat are causing me trouble. after every meal, no matter how small (& they're all pretty small since i'm finding that i have to eat about six times a day), i end up looking as though i'm about four months pregnant already. my stomach bloats like there's no tomorrow. it wouldn't bother me so much except that it feels really, really uncomfortable.
i've tried a couple of things, so far to no avail. there was rice vinegar in water after eating. that just tasted terrible. i also tried a product called mintec (which i was assured is safe for baby by some people who specialise in drugs during pregnancy) which contains peppermint oil & is supposed to be good for relieving the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. all it did was to give me minty-fresh diarrhoea. so now i'm trying good old mylanta. let's hope it will stop the bloating because it's driving me crazy with the discomfort & is affecting my sleep. i've looked up bloating & pregnancy on the net, but it doesn't seem to be a usual thing. indigestion & heartburn, yes, but major bloating, no. i even asked my doctor about it & he said that he hadn't really heard of it as a usual pregnancy complaint.
on top of all that, i now find that i have thrush! i looked up that & pregnancy on the net & at least it said that it was quite common (& not dangerous to baby) in pregnancy. it was mentioned that pregnant women are up to ten times more likely to get thrush. at least i know that is relatively normal, then.
aside from all the aches & pains & complaints (my neck & back are still causing me major discomfort during sleep), i'm healthier than i've ever been! i've eaten more fruit in the past five weeks than i have in all of my life previous to this. fruit is about the only thing that makes me only a tiny little bit bloated, as opposed to the worst offender being milk, which makes me look as though i'm about to give birth & feel as though i'm about to explode.
if the mylanta doesn't work & any of you out there have had experience with major bloating, please pass on your wisdom. at this stage i'm willing to try almost anything.
I fully sympathise. By now, you should have had the baby and it's all a bad dream behind you. I'm just starting and feel bleagh. There is absolutely nothing one can do for the bloatedness due to progesterone relaxation of involuntary smooth muscle. I did obstetrics so I know.. All commercial preparations help with the reduction of acid and hence indigestion, but gas is a completely undealt with by the pharmacological industry.
