early birthday present - 08:10 PM
shroom got me an early birthday present the other day .. a tv card for my computer. it's cool. when i get bored of surfing the internet, i can channel surf instead. i don't watch tv all that much, but when i do, i have to go upstairs. this way, i can see if there's anything on tv & still talk to shroom while the ads are on.
i had trouble getting a decent reception down here until i connected up to the main antenna upstairs. i bought some antenna wire from the hardware shop & connector for the back of the card, hoping to get better reception by just kind of stringing it up along the ceiling .. but that didn't work at all. instead we ended up stringing it up through the hole near at the top of the wall, then up through the floor where the other cables (past telstra & optus cable connections) have been threaded through into the lounge room. since i only bought one connector, the end that's connected to the card has the bare wires kind of wrapped around the connector on the card. since it's good friday today, i'll have to wait until tomorrow to get another proper connector. it works in the meantime & with no current running through it, it's not dangerous at all.
i met up with my mum for lunch & a movie yesterday. i pointed out my fingers which have turned into little sausages because of a small amount of water which i seem to be retaining. typical pregnancy thing, they reckon, but mum was a bit worried & said i should mention it to my obstetrician. you see, mum was very sick when she had my sister & i, more so with me than with monica. she suffered badly from toxemia, which i think is the same thing as eclampsia. whichever it is, it's very dangerous. in fact, mum was so sick when i was born that the doctor asked dad which one he'd prefer he spend his time on saving, mum or me. turns out i was as healthy as a horse (a very small, four pound one horse), so they didn't have to worry about me anyway.
mum's symptoms were quite severe. when she'd wake up in the morning she'd be so puffed up that she would even have trouble opening her eyes. she said that she went into hospital shortly after that.
i don't think i have anything to worry about really, because i'm hardly puffy at all, but i will mention it to the obstetrician as mum suggested, just so that we can all be aware in case anything goes wrong. monica didn't have any trouble with either of her two girls & i don't think it's hereditary, so i'm not concerned. no sense in worrying about something until there's something to worry about anyway.
i've put on heaps of weight over the last couple of weeks. it all seems to be baby though, no excess fat, because my thighs haven't changed much if at all. i guess it's just baby's first growth spurt. i can feel the difference in my own body .. three to four kilos on a small frame can really be felt. my bum gets sore from sitting on it really quickly & i have to change positions quite often.
i washed shroom's car for him today & could feel how quickly i became tired. i only washed the outside & a very small amount of the inside, didn't even vacuum, but i was exhausted by the time i'd finished. i can really tell that i'm pregnant when i bend over. i'm going to have to remember to bend from the knees from now on & not the waist. i can feel it for a while afterwards when i bend over. poor rudegere gets all squashed up & complains about it. lucky the uterus is built to take it & protect him .. but he sure tells me when i'm doing something he doesn't like.
already i'm having trouble getting in & out of the car. when i sat on the floor today to check out the aerial connection behind the tv in the lunge room, i had to ask shroom to help me get up again. *chuckle* .. very soon i'll even be walking like a pregnant woman. hehehe.
