major potbelly - 04:00 PM

exactly four weeks ago i could have been someone who was getting a little solid around the middle .. but today i look pregnant.

i can't believe how much my body has changed outwardly in such a short amount of time. four weeks .. twenty-eight days. in twenty-eight days i've gone from a smallish, slightly rounded belly to an obviously pregnant huge gut. it's kind of cool. after having gone through all the spewing, nausea, & extreme fatigue, but no one really knowing about it because i looked the same as everyone else, i now have a badge of honour which you can't really miss to prove that it's not just me being a big wuss. there really is a reason for all the strange things which have been happening to my body.

mum took me early birthday shopping today. we went to carindale to check out one of the few decent maternity wear shops that are around the place. they had some nice stuff. i went to their discount outlet at stones corner the other day & absolutely hated what was there so i only got two plain t-shirts. most of that was last season though, so it was a nice surprise to see items of clothing which i didn't despise at first glance. most of it was still not really my style, but there were some plain t-shirts, as well as a nice top with a tie between the boobs which accentuated my fantastically maternal breasts & pretty much says to the world, "look! i'm pregnant!!" with plenty of room for baby to grow & a nice choice of colours, mum bought it for me. a very nice & very practical birthday present. i chose the khaki green colour, despite mum's protests that i should pick some colours which are a bit brighter. they had a red one there, but it was a real pinky-red & i don't like pink. i can deal with having pink hair, yes, but not pink clothes.

mum had some shopping to do, too. i'd been to carindale a few times before but mum had never been, since it's not really close to where she or i live. she was pleased to see that they had a really great selection of shops with not only clothes for teeny-boppers, but stylish & fashionable clothes for someone her own age. she looked in a few shops to find a top to go with a skirt she'd bought a little while ago. i acted as fashion consultant & gave her my unbiased opinion. just as well too, because at one stage she was trying on a top & matching cardigan which looked really bad. it did nothing for her at all, but the sales ladies were plugging its benefits for all they were worth, as they do. just as well mum trusts my opinion. in the end, the sales ladies didn't miss out, because she found a different top in the same store, which looked really lovely.

with my blooming belly, i've been having trouble fitting into my jeans. i bought a belly belt a while ago so that i can wear my jeans while i expand, but there are two issues with wearing them. firstly, since the fly must be worn open, i have to wear a long top over the jeans. secondly, when i sit down, it still digs into my belly uncomfortably. with the current fashion for pants being hipsters, it's the perfect time for me to be pregnant & to find a pair of trousers which aren't maternity (i know it's practical but those pants with the elastic panel are really, really unattractive) but which still fit. hipsters can fit under my belly easily.

i tried on about five or six different styles of cargo pants. i don't go clothes shopping very often, so the last time i tried on trousers which i didn't already own was when i bought two pairs of excellent french star jeans about a year ago at myer. it made it even more obvious to me how much my body has changed. i have no waist. none at all. i go from bum to hips to belly to chest. there's no waist curve anymore except for the very obvious one at the front which goes very much outwards instead of in like it used to.

i chose two pairs of cargo pants. one in a grayish-khaki, nice heavy cotton, & another in a nice brown, made in cotton corduroy. i love corduroy. always have. corduroy has no business ever being out of fashion. the khaki ones are the usual type with pockets at the front & the back, very casual style with relatively wide legs, but with little flaps & buttons for belt loops. the brown pair are a little more interesting. they have pockets all over the place in different shapes & sizes. they're my favourite.

to go along with my new pants, i also bought a little black stretchy top with no sleeves & thin shoulder straps. now that my belly looks like its caused by pregnancy & not by eating too much, i don't want to hide it under loose tops anymore .. & with my new pants which sit neatly under my belly, i can wear shirts which go to my waist instead of to my hips.

although the looser tops which i've bought still look nice, they're not really my style .. they're purely functional. my new cargo pants & black top are much more what i like. i look like 'me' again .. yay! *chuckle*

And then you'll find that your pants fall down because there is no hips available to hold them up! I hated that, walking around holding on to the top of my pants to keep them up!

that's already happening .. *chuckle*

i don't know how guys deal with that, since they never have hips. hmm, i guess that's why boys' trousers come with belt loops.
