peek-a-boo - 11:45 PM

i feel like a real mum-to-be today because i bought my first maternity bra .. two, in fact.

they reckon that eighteen to twenty weeks is about the time you want to get into maternity bras. even though i'm right at that time now (i'm at eighteen weeks tomorrow) all i really wanted though was a normal black bra which i could wear under black tops, but since i'm pregnant, they reckon you can't wear underwire bras. something to do with the outer edge of the underwire pushing into the developing milk ducts under your arms & damaging them. i've had only one non-underwire bra to wear since i became pregnant so there was a real need for another one.

needing one in black severely limited my options. one store had no non-underwire bras at all in black & ones they did have in other colours ('colours' in the loosest sense of the word. beige or white does not exactly constitute 'colour' as far as i'm concerned) were so ugly. i'm talking gladiator bras .. huge, solid things with straps as wide as tyres & really very unattractive. i can understand that when your boobs are starting to enter the room a minute before you do, that you require a bit more than just spaghetti straps, but come on, some of these were just ridiculous.

i tried another bra shop with a better range. amazingly, they had one style in black .. only one, of course .. & it happened to be a maternity bra. it seems the general view is that if you're pregnant or need a bra without an underwire you're not allowed to wear black underwear. elle macpherson is now my hero, because not only does she produce a black maternity bra, but a lilac one as well. not only that, but when the sales lady showed it to me, much to her amusement, my comment was "wow .. that's actually not hideous!" in fact, it's quite pretty. the straps are wider than usual, but not excessive & it has a lace trim which is pretty but not prissy.

i tried it on & not only does it look really nice for a maternity bra (it looks almost like a little lacey crop top), but it is *really* comfortable .. probably the most comfortable bra i've ever worn. the comment on the swing tag from elle herself says, "motherhood not only changed my life, it made me design a bra that was more than merely functional." hear! hear! elle, i applaud you. she must have gone into bra shops & been as horrified as i was.

it fits really well now, but still has room for me to grow even bigger when my milk comes in. it has double the number of hook adjustments at the back, six instead of three (also to allow for more expansion), which seems to be a fairly standard maternity bra thing. it also has your classic, peek-a-boo, flip-down front section on each boob so that you can flash your nipples to your husband at the drop of a hat .. also useful for feeding, i hear.

i bought two for myself, the black one & the lilac. i would have bought the flesh coloured one instead, to wear under white, but apparently it's been discontinued & the only one they had left in that colour wasn't my size. yes, they are functional, but it's nice to still be able to feel good at the same time. if i'm soon going to look as big as the side of a house, i may as well look as big as the side of a pretty house.

Hi sweetheart, It's so good to have you back, but where is your cam? I've really missed you these past several months, so hook those cams up and let us see that belly grow. Love ya, Chip
