my birthday party - 01:41 PM
we had my birthday party last night. it was really good. i had a great time.
in total, we had about fourteen guests over the whole night, a good sized group. there were some who wanted to come but then couldn't attend at the last minute for one reason or another, but the fact that they did originally want to be there is what matters.
we hired a couple of big tables & some chairs to make sure everyone could have a seat. most people sat around the table & chatted & the smokers congregated outside en masse when they all seemed to want a smoke at the same time. all our guests got along & mixed well together.
i received some lovely gifts from my friends. melanie gave me one of her excellent pictures, one called 'wet leaf', printed on photographic paper & framed. just gorgeous! jade gave me a beautiful little book of photos called 'close friends'. it's kind of difficult to describe, but one of the comments contained in that link does a good job: "a delightful keepsake volume pairing pictures of animals with photos of adorable babies in strikingly similar poses."
our friends mung & ryan came & brought along denny & another friend, tanya. tanya gave me two hair pins with a pretty butterfly on each clip made from wire & beads. really delicate & unique. i must remember to wear them next time i dress up to go somewhere nice. mung, ryan & denny gave me a book called 'the nappy bag book' full of links & phone numbers & anything else that we'll need to know to do with baby from minus zero through to about five years old. i had a bit of a look through it last night & it's excellent.
a guy from work, colin, gave me a small gift pack from the body shop with some 'body butter' moisturiser, a foot pumice stone (in the shape of a foot) & some 'foot fizzers' to put in some water to sooth my feet. my feet are actually a bit tired this morning from being on them all yesterday, so i think i might use those today. all the gifts i received were lovely & really thoughtful.
i put some snacks in the oven later in the night, which went down really well. they were all eaten & were very tasty. we had four 'n' twenty party pies, pampas pastry sausage rolls, chicken & vegetable filos & spinach & ricotta filos. the pampas snacks were particularly delicious. there were also potato chips & corn chips, two varieties of beer & so many cans of soft drink that we have a huge tub still full of them, now soaking in what used to be ice. there are enough drinks left over for another party!
mcgarnicle got along well with everyone. he particularly played well with stephanie (jade's little girl, two years old). he was so patient & gentle with her. after her initial fright at his barking because of new people arriving at the house, she later played with him with his favourite toy, his kong. usually he can be quite enthusiastic with it, tugging on the rope hard enough to pull fully grown adults off balance, but with stephanie, he just waited quietly until she threw it (which was more like just letting go of it, she was so cute) & then he'd pick it up & give it straight back to her.
shroom did a great job with the music, lining up lots of mp3s to run from his computer. everyone seemed to enjoy his choices, a really good variety of music ranging from some heavy stuff, to a bit of trance & some older classics.
what an excellent party. i really enjoyed myself, shroom really enjoyed himself & from what i could tell, our party guests had a good time, too.
happy birthday - sounds like it was a great night!! made me homesick to read about the four'n'twenty party pies - i'd do just about anything to have one of those right now!!
