getting organised - 07:50 PM

the house is getting there, slowly but surely. poor shroom's been working seven days a week some weeks, most times six days a week, so he's hardly even seen the back yard, but i've managed to get some things done while he's been working hard, despite getting tired quite easily & hobbling around with a sore left hip. it's been a bit bung since the day before we moved almost two weeks ago. i must have carried something a bit too heavy when we were doing the last of the packing. anyway, it's not so bad. it'll come good eventually. *smile*

the bathroom had no towel rails in it, so while i was buying them i also got a hand towel ring & two bathrobe hooks. i bought my first long-awaited electric drill the same day & installed the hand towel ring, the bathrobe hooks & moved the toilet roll holder to the other wall. when you walked into the loo & closed the door you'd knock the toilet roll off with your hip, so i decided the other wall was better. i bought all these things at bunnings. the longer towel rails i wanted weren't in stock (i wanted longer ones to allow for the giant bath towels i decided to spoil us with which i bought on special online at holy sheet) so they were put on order & arrived today.

i haven't put the towel rails up yet, perhaps tonight, but in the process of taking the toilet roll holder off the wall the other day, i made a good sized tear in the gyprock, as well as having to fill the holes left by the screws, so i managed to finish that repair today. i'm really pleased with the result. it looks good.

i still haven't managed to get much more kitchen stuff put away. the top cupboards are still dirty & there are at least two big boxes of panty stuff which has yet to find a home. i've bought lots of large plastic containers which i've been using to orgainise it all, which is working out very well. just means that it's taking me longer to figure out what i want where. at least the major stuff is put away, so i've been able to cook.

i got a really nice laundry hamper/shelf thing for the bathroom from howard's storage world. they're a bit expensive, but they have the nicest stuff ever. i could spend hours wandering around in there looking at all the cool stuff. the staff say that some people actually do spend two or more hours there. whenever i've bought something there i want to say, "just this thanks .. & one of everything." the hamper i bought has a chrome frame (oh, how i love chrome. i loooove chrome!) with a sort of big drawer for the hamper which leans outwards for you to drop your dirty clothes in. covering the hamper bit, which is made from a heavy frosted white pvc with chrome corners, is a frosted glass shelf, with another one above it. it's on wheels. it's quite lovely.

another thing i decided to spoil us with is a double-headed shower head. oooh, it's lovely. it's actually a water saving one, which is good since we're on tank water. our hot water system isn't that large either, so it helps us save hot water too. it's nice when there's just one showering, because it gives you wider water coverage, but it excels itself if you're showering with your loved one. you can angle the two separate heads whichever way you want. we used it together last night for the first time & it was so wonderful to just stand there & not have to ask the other person to give you a turn under the water because you were getting cold.

inbetween all this stuff i've been cleaning up, putting away boxes, flattening empty ones, cooking dinners, having glucose bood tests (that was this morning, it made me very tired) & trying to convince the dog that two acres really is enough space for him & that he doesn't have to hassle the neighbours every time they go into their yard.

mcgarnicle's lost a bit of weight since we moved here. he was getting rather tubby before. friends who hadn't seen him in a while noticed straight away & said, "he's getting fat!" as soon as they saw him. he must be loving having so much more space to run around in, even if he's only got the front part of the land at the moment since the back section's fencing is only suitable for horses. there was a small yard at the old place, but we had to keep him inside when we went out because he would keep on escaping. he had a large area to stay in, but there was nothing for him to do but lie on his bed & look out at the street through the glass doors. here he can run around & bark at birds & ducks & cars & whatever else takes his fancy. so he's looking much more svelte these days.

there's so much to do around here that i'm not sure where to start. the main thing, obviously, is getting the contents of boxes put away, but when there are lovely bathrooms to get organised, i've been tending to put that first. there's also a big space in the hall near the front door which is just begging for a pretty set of shelves which i can use to put things which i need to take with me next time i leave the house, or drop things as i walk into the door. it's so wonderful being able to turn this place into something nice because we know that we can choose to put what we want where we want it & that it's going to stay in that spot for a long time. home ownership absolutely rocks!

I envy you *smile* it sounds like your having so much fun adding your touch to everything!. *lol* at Mcgarnicle! I think having a larger sized yard just makes dogs more bigheaded! Grace (my dog) is exactly the same!the neighbours arn't allowed to walk within 20 metres of the fence boundry without her telling them off!
