c-section still up in the air - 08:45 PM

on monday i had my second ultrasound to see where the second placenta is lying within the uterus. today was my appointment with the obstetrician where he would read the report from the ultrasound guy & let me know if he thought a caesarian would be advisable.

you see, if there are blood vessels of the placenta in the path of the baby's exit point, the head (or any part of the baby, i guess) can tear through them on the way down & the baby can very easily bleed to death before it arrives on the outside.

he looked at the ultrasound guy's report (there has to be a name for a guy that does ultrasounds for a living .. ultrasonacist? lol! *chuckle* ) & could see from the image included where the second placenta is, but it wasn't clear as to whether the two were joined & if they are joined, where the join is. he showed me on the picture where there seems to be some tissue joining the two.

it was the first time i've seen him looking quite serious. he's quite a friendly man & always cheerful, but he had his serious face on for this. if i'm to have a caesarian, then it has to be soon. tomorrow marks thirty-seven weeks into my pregnancy. full-term is anywhere from thirty-eight to forty weeks, although the due date is calculated to forty weeks.

if a caesarian is a necessary thing (rather than just because it's practical or because i don't want to go through labour) then i imagine that he would book it at thirty-eight weeks since, in reality, i could go into labour any time between thirty-eight & forty weeks. he said that if my waters break, or if i go into labour that i'm to go into hospital & that they are to contact him immediately.

i'm seeing him weekly at this stage & usually at the room he rents in a medical centre at a suburban shopping centre once a week, since that's more convenient than going all the way into wickham terrace in the city. wickham terrace is the street where all the specialists seem to have their offices. not sure why that is. maybe a few just happened to gather there & then everyone thought it was a good idea. there is a hospital or two near there, so maybe it's because of that. who knows?

he asked that i see him next week at the first possible appointment i can get at his wickham terrace offices rather than the shopping centre's medical centre. he said that he'll do a scan himself (which makes me wonder why he doesn't do all the scans) as well as an internal examination & then he said he'll be able to tell me for sure if he thinks a c-section is necessary.

this will be my first internal examination. everything's been going along swimmingly so far, so there's been no need for one, i guess. there was a pap smear at the beginning, but that involves that horrible duck-billed instrument of torture & a really long cotton bud rather than hands & fingers, which i assume this internal examination will require. it doesn't bother me so much that i'll have some guy's fingers up my you-know-what really, i mean, he is a doctor, it's more that i hope it doesn't hurt. i'm not a huge wuss or anything, but i prefer not to be in pain if i don't have to be. i know being in labour will hurt, but there's a really cool reward at the end: a whole new baby. heh. *chuckle*

so if he decides to do a caesarian, i could be having the bub as soon as a week away! even though i'd prefer a natural birth if it's possible, it's kind of exciting to think that i might be able to meet our bubby face to face sooner than i thought.

i'll keep you posted as soon as i know more.

Ultrasound tech's charge less to do the ultrasound than doctors do. The "internal" exam will include fingers and such, and possibly an internal ultrasound, which may be why the doctor wants to do it himself. Hoping the placenta will be out of the way for a natural child birth, it's actually better for the baby. Hugs and well wishes from all of us. *smile*

I hope you get the outcome that you want, but either way I'm sure everything will be fine *smile* . I can't wait to see the first pic of your baby. Yours is the first blog I check everyday to see if there is any news of a delivery *smile*

Gosh, doesn't time fly? Two blinks and you might be a mommy already!
One way or the other (and I hope it will go the way you hope), it will be the start of something even more special *smile*

crikey. whatever happens it is good to know that your doctor has you and rudy's best interests in mind and is carefully checking the situation.
the internal examination with just the doctor's fingers is probably one of the 'easiest' *personal* type things you can get done, coz it doesn't involve any metallic objects cranking you open or anything like that, the doctor is a lot more gentle. and since he will probably be not wanting to possibly trigger anything (by cervical stretching or touching the amniotic membrane), he will be taking care to be extra gentle.
::big hugs for you and rudy::

(btw: guy that does ultrasounds for a living = sonographer)

How exciting!!! *smile* .The storey your doctor told you sounds quite feasible and you may really need a ceaser. But have you read in the papers lately about obstertrician's are refusing to do natural births these days and really pushing for c-sections just because of the whole liability issue and the risk of damage....?. But i'm sure he wouldn't lie to you about your condition, but he could be exagerating a little if you know what i mean. I think it's a feminist issue...women are very vulnerable when they're pregnant and sometimes more easily swayed than usual...Don't stress...everythings going to be fine *smile*

Hey there Girl, so shit happens! If you end up having a C, in the big picture it don't matter once that baby is in your arms. So you can't go home the same day, but you have the rest of your life with her (or him), either way it'll hurt a bit - but it hurts just as much when they fall over and break something and you have to sit in the waiting room at ER for hours because there are 20 other mums and broken/sore/ill kids there and you think yours if more important than all the others. And then you have to get through their first sleep-over at someone else's place, and their bed is empty that night. And they go to school and the house is empty that day, or ( and now this is from my mother, I am not there yet ) they marry and move away, so this is life. Whether they come out the door or the window.... well, as long as they are in your arms at the end of they day. I wish you the best for this one, and the next and any others you want!!!!
