mama glider is good but it could be better - 06:52 AM
i finally got the mama glider which i'd waited so long for. after a bit of furniture rearranging, it's now set up in the corner of the lounge room, out of the morning glare of the sun & in view of the tv so i can watch that when riley's having a particularly long feed.
it's really great, but i've found two drawbacks with it, one of which i've fixed already, the other which i'm still working on.
firstly, the top of the seat cushion cover was shuffling back gradually from the action of sitting on it & it was beginning to look all scrunched up & annoying (well, it was annoying me), so i bought eight strong, flat buttons to sew into it, four each side, sewed back to back, if you know what i mean, to hold the cover where it should be. it looks preatty good, even if i say so myself.
also, the arms on it are made of wood, which is lovely, but i've managed to bump riley's head on it hard enough at least once for him to have a cry about it (i felt so bad that i made him cry!), so i got some furnishing fabric in the closest matching colour i could find & some foam rubber, to make some soft arms to put on it.
sitting on it now, with the flat wooden arms, my elbows are at the exact right height when i'm feeding riley so that i don't have to hold my shoulders up (& thus get sore muscles) so i got enough of the fabric to make a cushion with the left over foam rubber to raise my bum up just enough so that my elbows will still be at the right height since the soft covers will raise the level of the arms a little. the extra cushion sitting on the chair, made from the as-matching-as-possible fabric, will help to tie in the fabric on the arms, so it won't look totally mismatched.
i just took a picture of the seat cushion, but i won't upload the pics or post a link to it in the photolog until i've done the arms & the extra cushion & taken a pic of them as well.
What a great idea. Sounds like the perfect breastfeeding HQ.
How clever! Your ingenuity will certainly come in handy while raising that boy.
I think I already mentioned something about resourcefulness recently
