happy mummy things - 08:57 PM

two things arrived in the mail today which have made me very happy indeed. two things which make life as a mummy just a little bit easier.

one is from the lady who makes the moon pads which i've been using. she also makes breast pads & i asked her if she could make some with a waterproof backing on them. she did & i was very pleased with the outcome, so i ordered a dozen pairs. that was a while ago.

i signed up for her email newsletter in which she mentioned that she's now making a nappy change mat for babies. i enquired again about a waterproof layer on one of these & it arrived today. it's excellent! i don't plan to use it as a nappy change mat, but instead wanted it as a better option than placing hand towels beneath him when he's napping (or squirming) on the couch next to me & for under him when he's in bed with us, to catch nappy leaks or spews. the frequently expressed bodily fluids would soak straight through the hand towels onto our bed sheets or onto the couch cover. rather annoying .. but now, it's all good! i've been using it underneath him today & it's already proved its worth.

it has the cutest print on it. it's medium blue with green frog faces. the frog has large eyes & big eyelashes & a little red tongue sticking out. it's just adorable. it comes with a pouch to put it in (made from the same fabric) with a waterproof pocket inside containing two cloth wipes.

i'm so pleased with the waterproof version of the mat that i've asked her to make me two more so that i'll always have another ready to go when one's in the wash, or simply to be able to have them placed in more than one location.

the other thing which arrived was a hands free pumping bra. i've been expressing some breast milk over the last number of weeks so that daddy can feed riley sometimes, as well as for when we decide we want to go out on our own & leave him with any of his keen grandparents. i've found that the best time to express (that is, when the milk flows more freely) is in the morning &/or while i'm feeding riley on the other boob.

this proved to be a bit of a dangerous juggling act. i could prop riley up on pillows around me & then get the breast pump on the other boob, but if i had to reposition him i had only one hand to do it with since i had to hold the breast pump with the other. a couple of times i half slipped with him & i thought with terror how easily i could have hurt him really badly in one way or another trying to move him around with just the one hand. i haven't pumped since then because i was so worried about hurting him.

the hands free pumping bra has solved this problem & works an absolute treat! i gave it a go this afternoon & i'm so pleased with it. it's a real load off my mind to be able to give him the full safety of two available hands but still be able to pump some of the good stuff for him. since it works so well, i've emailed the lady i bought it from to order another one so i can wear this bra most of the time, even when one's in the wash.

i so love the internet. if it wasn't for being online i would never have found or been able to order these things which have made my life as a mum so much easier. *smile*

Oh!! i could have sent you one of those mats from Japan. They have lots here and you can get really cool inexpensive ones. Would you still like one?. They have heaps to choose from.
