tiring days - 06:43 PM
i've had rather a busy weekend. actually, i've had rather a busy week!
first, this weekend. it was mum's birthday last week, so i arranged to see her this weekend to spend a bit of quality time together & to give her the gift from myself & monica: a leather credit card holder filled not with credit cards, but with credit card sized pictures of her grandkids. she loves it, of course.
i wanted to go to the parents, children & babies expo which was on this weekend, so after making me a lovely lunch of fresh rolls, ham, cheese & tomato, we went there together, me, mum & smiley.
since we're not really in the money these days, mum paid for both of us to get in. she paid for the parking, too. mums are good, aren't they?
we walked around for probably a good couple of hours looking at the various displays & shops which were set up. some of the stands were only small companies which are relatively new, but have some very good products. one of them was motherly cubes. i met the lady who started the company. excellent stuff. i hope she does well. baby food made from real food & not full of water & fillers, which she & her husband actually make themselves for the whole of the east coast of australia. go & visit her site. she rocks.
i ran into a girl with whom i used to work. she was there with her hubby & little girl, but they'd wandered off somewhere, so she was just cruising around until they found her again. she didn't seem in a hurry to find them. i think she was enjoying the break!
a while ago our car was stolen & then written off after it was found. smiley's pram was in the boot. unfortunately, it wasn't there anymore when the car was found. bastards. anyway, we looked around at some of the prams & strollers available at the expo. there were heaps, as you can imagine. one particular one was a very good price, seemed to be pretty good quality & is suitable for a toddler or a newborn. mum said to me that she would buy it for us if i thought we could use it. i haven't actually missed the pram that much, since i usually put smiley in the sling, but i know that we will need a stroller once he gets too heavy to carry. i thought about it for a while as we walked around some more & then said that yes, i would love it if she would buy it for us.
i also bought a pack of sippy cup adapter things for smiley's bottle when he drinks water & mum bought a straw adapter which i wanted as well.
all in all, it was rather a profitable trip thanks to mum. smiley & i did alright for a day which was intended to be for mum's birthday. mum's good. she looks after us when we need her.
today was filled with socialising, too. my friend, fiona, who lives in sydney, is up in brisbane this weekend visiting her parents with her six month old boy, duncan. i went over to visit her this morning. i hadn't met her little one before, although i had seen pictures of him. he's rather adorable. he has the cutest little flared nostrils. lol!
he really is a darling thing.
fiona & i had a bit of time to play with smiley & talk while duncan was asleep on his grandma's lap. smiley was keen to get on the floor & explore this place he'd never been to before & after playing around the table, he crawled down the hall. he got to the stairs leading up to the second floor & headed right on up. it's the first time he's ever tried climbing stairs & he didn't even hesitate! fiona & i were rather impressed. he climbed all fifteen steps, in three flights, twice over, me following behind on my own hands & knees to catch him in case he decided to make a quick turn.
he did try to go back down once & began to take a giant pace onto the step below. i caught him before he went too far & so fiona & i, her guiding his back & me guiding his legs, lowered him down on his bottom, one step at a time, to teach him the better way to do it while he's still learning. fiona took some pictures & emailed them to me. you can see some of them here.
shortly after i got home, shroom's parents came to visit. they brought yummy food with them, so we had rolls with cheese, ham, sundried tomatoes & potato salad. there were olives, too, but olives are stinky so i had everything except them.
this past week we've been cleaning & tidying around the house, preparing it for sale. we're going to be selling this house & moving somewhere with a bit more rain. we hope to move further up north & grab a bit (hopefully no less than twenty acres) of rainforest. this is the plan. it remains to be seen what actually happens, but we're both pretty keen on living somewhere a bit remote where we can have a wonderful garden growing beautiful plants & vegetables & living as green as possible. it would be such a wonderfully clean & healthy place to bring up smiley.
so over the past week we've been cleaning windows, walls, eaves, gutters, garage doors, etc to make the place look lovely. shroom's been doing most of the work since i've been looking after smiley, but i've been pitching in where i can & if i can't help i've been hanging around giving shroom moral support, which he assures me is still good.
anyone interested in two acres about fifty minutes from brisbane? it's good horse country. three bedroom brick house with a double lockup garage. dams, garden shed, horse shelter or chook shed & just about the best kids cubby you've ever seen.
this house, shroom's other house & a piece of land he has up north are all on the market. we're trying to sell them privately so we don't lose a large sum of money to a real estate agent. we'll see how we go.
so that's been my last week. busy. tiring .. but very productive.
mums are great
So you've agreed on the matter. It's been a bit of a short stay, I wouldn't dream of moving after a year. But then I love where I live
I hope you'll be successful in this short venture into real estate business
i went to the baby expo on saturday & they did have some great things there - wish i had known you were going, i had heaps of free passes!! glad you had a great time there :o)
gee, now i feel guilty for taking some down time. what a lazy bum i am. lol. glad the week was productive for you.
gongrats to your mom
I can't believe you're moving after a year! I would love to buy the place if I were in a position to. It's so lovely.....
Did you know that you can get rainfall data from the Dept of Primary Industries for any rural properties you are thinking of buying? They are helpfull on many questions you may have on rural properties and have no vested interests in whether a plae sells or not.
Anyway, I am way overdue for sending you and the kid an Uncle Jungle hug. Have a huge one.
I hope the house selling is quick, smooth and painless! Mum's are great aren't they?
