bookworm - 07:30 AM
smiley's favourite book used to be the shapes book, but now he has a new favourite. it's simply called 'colours' & each page has four different photographs of real objects of one colour on a white background. for example, the yellow page has a bright yellow umbrella, a teapot, some cheese & an inflatable kickboard. each of these objects has their name written underneath & in the middle of the four pictures is a yellow diamond shape (each page has the diamond in its own colour) with 'yellow' written in white lettering. personally, i think it's kind of a dicky looking book, but it seems to prove quite popular with the young ones & since smiley has been so enamoured with it, my respect has grown for it, despite it's dickiness.
smiley has a favourite page. it's the black page, which is opposite the yellow page. he brings us the book & will turn the heavy cardboard pages for us (he's getting quite good at turning pages, now) until the black & yellow pages are showing. if we pass those pages, he'll go back & forth until he finds them. or else he'll get his book & find the pages all on his own & then bring the book to us with those two pages already open.
we have to hold the book while he looks at the black page. he will then want us to point out the objects there (camera, creatures, masks, licorice) over & over. he also likes the yellow page, but mainly the yellow teapot. he'll grab our finger & make us point to the teapot & tell him what it is. sometimes he'll point our finger at the other yellow objects, too, but mostly the teapot. it's funny though, he loves the black page most of all, but he'll only grab our finger for the yellow page.
*chuckle* he's such a funny kid.
he loves his books. he'll even 'read' on his own. he'll sit there with a book on his lap, turning the pages & looking at each page. i'm really pleased. reading (or at least looking at books as he does) early on is a really good start to doing well with language & writing skills. i used to read anything & everything when i was young & i attribute my writing & language skills to having read so much as a young kid. i hope to continue to foster in him that love of reading.
how cute - just wait till he tells you what the things actually are!!
its good he likes books. they will open the world for him.
I remember jade at that age, with books
I think I did ok with the fostering interest thing
