ants - 07:50 PM
the only negative thing about our new place, which isn't really a negative since they don't actually bother me all that much, are the ants. the ants are everywhere! i guess it comes with the territory when you live right next to a sugar mill .. ants love sugar.
they get into everything. if you leave out the smallest crumb, they find it. i'm not the best housekeeper in the world so they usually have a bit of a smorgasboard of crumbs.
even in places where there aren't crumbs though, only closed jars or sealed packets, they still find their way in & do what they do, marching along in their little trails.
in the kitchen, they track along the bench behind the sink & there are little piles of leftover wood or whatever where they've been chewing on stuff .. hmm, or maybe that's termites. well, the place is still sturdy enough, no walls are caving in, so if it's termites then it's nothing to worry about at this stage. it's a company house, so if there's a problem, at least it's not going to cost us any money.
when i make lunch or breakfast or even cut a piece of fruit, within minutes, they find it. if we leave a plate on our desks, they find it. even if we leave a full cup of hot chocolate & leave it alone for more than fifteen minutes, they find it!
the strangest thing they've found is shroom's glasses cleaning cloth. they were swarming all over it & were crowded around little spots on the cloth, eating tiny holes in it. i wondered for a couple of days what on earth they would be finding to eat in a glasses cleaning cloth, but then today it twigged. shroom goes into the mill quite regularly. sugar & sugar by products are flying around in there & would, of course, land on his glasses. he comes home & cleans them with the cloth & hey presto, one very tasty glasses cleaning cloth. lol! 
neither did I.
that's horrible. snakes and ants. I think you can visit me.
