tick - 10:19 PM

shroom just found a tick on the dog! he held him down while i took it out with tweezers according to the instructions on this site. we got all of it out. it was still tiny (compared to the one that the vets took off mcgarnicle ages ago when he got really sick) so i think it was very newly attached. he wasn't showing any signs of being sick, but we'll keep an eye on him tonight. just as well shroom was paying attention & felt the lump.

hey Coralie, This might sound really gross and you may not want to even consider it. But my Mum is into homeopathy, which is based on the principle that like cures like, eg. if you get stung by a bee, you need to take a remedy that contains the element that makes bee's sting, anyway we applied that to tics with out dog, by feeding a squashed tic to her on a couple of occasions, and she seems to have developed an immunity to them, she never gets sick from them anymore, and she always gets them. Please don't report me to the R.S.C.A!!!! it really does work!.

One of the things I really like about Desert living is that we have not ticks or fleas - at least not at our place and we have 1 1/2 acres.
However, this is the second time that we have found a small tick on our little Pom after taking her to be groomed. We only take her once a year to get a severe haircut for the very hot summers here. I think that two years in a row is more than a coincidence. So, we are taking her somewhere else next year. I guess the dry air inhibits their growth although we have lots of trees and vegetation around our place. Keep watching Mac, those things are nasty!!

The only "tick" we get in our climate (UK) is from the clock!!
Perhaps living in a colder climate has some benifits... No nasty snakes, spiders, cyclones, or a risk of the big skin "C"...Sounds perhaps nor such a bad place to be afterall.... *wink*
