can hardly wait - 04:16 PM
i'm so excited about the prospect of having our very own home. on monday we'll be arranging things with a solicitor to do the conveyancing & deal with the contract, then it's all go from there.
once the settlement comes through (it'll most likely be a thirty day settlement), we'll arrange to get the inside of the house repainted before we move in. most of the inside is a kind of yellow, but it's a bit dark for my liking. the two smaller bedrooms are blue & i think a lighter blue, but i'd prefer that they match the rest of the house. i think the main bedroom may also be slightly different to the main areas of the house, so that'll be done too.
i'd like to choose a very light colour, almost white. mum & dad renovated their place once & if i remember correctly, they chose a colour called marshmallow. it was a very soft white, quite nice. i think i'll pick something like that. the kitchen bench is good quality laminex in a dark green marble finish, so i guess i'll grab some samples to make sure the colour i choose doesn't clash with the kitchen bench tops. i'll have to make sure there are no other major colour issues. i've only been through the house twice, so i can only recall the major colour schemes rather than any details.
i do remember that one of the rooms was obviously a baby's room, because it had a rocking horse motif painted around the walls. it was kind of cute, but not really my style. i think hanging pictures or posters is far more practical, because then we can change them as the baby grows up & his or her tastes change.
friday five - 03:06 PM
a few people i read regularly have been doing the friday five & it's got some nice simple questions which i can rave on a bit to, so i'm going to do them too .. yes, i know i've missed it by a day, but better late than never.
1. what brand of toothpaste do you use?
umm .. usually colgate, but only out of habit, i guess. i'll buy whatever appeals at the time, but one that i do avoid is close-up. you know that horrible red one? it tastes really gross.
2. what brand of toilet paper do you prefer?
safe because it's unbleached (although they do have a bleached version) & made from recycled materials which is very environmentally friendly. the unbleached toilet paper comes in paper wrapping, which is also very good for the environment since it can be recycled again.
3. what brand(s) of shoes do you wear?
about the only shoes i ever wear are my blundstones. i wear the unisex, dark brown elastic-sided boot. i bought my first pair for when i started cleaning houses. i did that for about eighteen months, wearing them every weekday, where they'd get soaked through two or three times a day, then i'd also wear them on the weekends. they've climbed mountains with me & done bushwalks & lasted me about five years. considering that i would have worn them for about three hundred days of each year for five years, i think they did really well. they'd be lucky if i polished them three times during the years i wore them.
i bought a new pair when the old ones started to separate from the sole & the sole began to split, but i actually still have them & have been wearing them again since i've become pregnant, because they've stretched out so much compared to the new ones & so are comfortable for my sometimes swollen feet.
4. what brand of soda do you drink?
i'm assuming this means softdrink? i don't drink a whole lot of it, but when i do, i usually drink coke. if i'm at a nice cafe or the like though, i love the flavoured sanpellegrino drinks. they're delicious & have real fruit in them. if they don't have those, then they often have the tiro drinks, which are similar but not quite as special.
5. what brand of gum do you chew?
none, i don't chew gum. every now & then i'll have some, but it's usually been offered to me rather than me buying it. if i ever do buy it, i get wrigley's pk or juicy fruit. i never buy extra or any of the sugar free gums because they have aspartame in them, which, even though i've never really heard otherwise, i've always believed to be very unhealthy. before i was pregnant i might have had it a few times, but especially since i've been pregnant, i won't even sip diet drinks because they all have it in them. it has that horrible aftertaste. anything that tastes like that has to be carcinogenic.
if i do chew gum, then i never chew it in front of other people, because so many people when they chew gum look like cows chewing on cud. i just reckon it looks kind of uncouth unless you chew really discreetly.
