far out .. you can finally tell that it's winter around here. over the last week or so, some of the days have been really warm & you'd think we were heading into summer, but the last few days have been quite cool, especially in the morning & at night.
i asked shroom to leave the heater on down here last night when he went to bed, so that i'd be warm when i got up (i knew he'd stay up until ridiculous hours of the morning, you see) but he turned it off & left one of the doors open so all the heat escaped!
he's got a memory like a seive sometimes! really though, if that's the most annoying habit he has, then i'm doing well.
i was so productive yesterday with my computer being out of action.
i packed three boxes & even washed the dishes twice. by the evening i was getting a bit bored, though. is this what life without a computer is like?? i even had to resort to watching a dvd! god forbid if i have to watch the actual tv.
shroom's not going into work today (being a pubic holiday) after all, which is good. i'm glad he's taking the day off because he works really hard & deserves to take a break. he's been working saturdays lately, mostly because there's so much stuff going on at work that has to be done, but the small amount of extra income is good too, since i've only been working part time & since we now have an extra mortgage to pay for. the only drawback for me is that i can't get my computer fixed until tomorrow instead, but that's a very small price to pay for shroom's happiness & sanity.
the extra mortgage won't kill us, because what we've been paying as rent will mostly cover the payments on that, but there are so many extra expenses when moving to ones own house. there's the solicitor's fees, the stamp duty, the pest & building inspections, & god knows how many other related costs to pay before we can actually have the keys to our house.
there are some costs also which aren't absolutely necessary, but will make our life nicer at our new house. we plan to get the inside painted professionally before we move in, which will cost a pretty penny. i was planning to do it myself, but shroom pointed out that it'll be so much quicker & easier if we get someone to do it for us. there is the cost, of course, but doing it this way will take less than a week & it'll be all fresh for us to move our stuff in, where as if i do it, then i'll have to get shroom to move furniture around for me while i do a wall at a time & it'll take months. at least this way, if there are any problems with the quality of the work then we're covered by some sort of guarantee.
we also want to get a slab of concrete put down in the double garage/shed. it's a really good quality shed & the foundations are set nice & deep, but that's the only concrete, the floor is dirt. we don't mind that for the cars, but i imagine we'll use the garage to store some things for a while, so we'd prefer it to have a good solid floor. from our limited knowlege of concrete slabs, that won't be as expensive as the painting.
there are, of course, lots of other plans for our lovely home, but those two are the only ones which we'd like to get done before we move in. all the other plans are things which can wait & aren't even necessary, but things which will make our life easier or nicer in the long run. some of them we can do ourselves & some we can't, but we have a big list drawn up already so we'll get to them as time & finances permit.
ahh .. so much planning & fun for the future. i'm actually looking forward to doing some of the things which we can do ourselves, one of which will be an organic food garden! that's going to take a while since there'll be lots to do to prepare the soil before i can even start planting. that'll be a learning curve for me. i'm not a gardener, by any stretch of the imagination, but i'm up for the challenge & the rewards will be great. not only will we have our own wonderfully healthy food, but i actually quite enjoy learning .. good food for the brain as well as the body.
i plan to have a few chooks, too, so we can have fresh eggs. it'll be fun (for want of a better word) seeing how the dog reacts to the chickens. that's going to take some strict training, but he's an intellient dog, so i think it'll be okay. i just had a thought that perhaps i should get them as chicks, so that they kind of grow up with him. it might be an option. lots of extra work for that, but it'll be good practise for when my own baby comes. heh!
gosh, this entry is so long that i probably should have made it a diary entry. ah well, you get that.
Some of us can't visit, going to post any pictures? *looks hopeful*
