so it is winter - 06:40 AM

currently they reckon it's around 6 degrees celcius (about 42 fahrenheit) but it must have been low enough before that to make ice crystals on the windscreen of shroom's car. he's starting early this morning to meet some contractors at work, so when i went out there to say goodbye & let him out the gate i sat in the the car with him for about five minutes while the engine heated up & the crystals slowly melted. then he drove the ten metres up the gate & i jumped out to open them up for him to go.
it's definitely winter over this side of town. back at the old place, some days you could easily be forgiven for thinking it was only autumn, or in the daytime even summer, but here we're further inland, so the temperatures are more extreme & there's no mistaking it for anything but winter. i haven't seen ice crystals on a windscreen since i last went to the snow, which was years & years ago.
