caesarean section? - 06:19 PM

i had my regular appointment with my obstetrician today. since the last ulstrasound showed the presence of a second placenta, he instructed me to have another ultrasound at thirty-six weeks to check where it is. it's possible that the second placenta might be in the way, meaning that i would require a caesarean to deliver rudegere safely. we discussed how he seems to be lying sideways & has been since he's been showing enough to have an idea of which way he's lying. this could indicate that the second placenta is indeed down low, in the way of a natural birth.

it would be disappointing to have to have a ceasarean, since i would have preferred a natural birth, but i guess the important thing to keep in mind is that rudegere is able to be healthy & happy no matter which way he comes into the world. it's not a definite at all though. i'll find out for sure once i have the second scan in six to seven weeks & then go back to see my obstetrician again.

mcgarnicle's donkey - 10:43 AM

mcgarnicle's toy donkey is now not only blind with a lobotomy, but it's a paraplegic. well, i guess it's a double amputee really. he chewed its back legs off last night & they're (until i get the vacuum out later today) sitting in two different places on the carpet with the stuffing scattered about in between. poor donkey. really though, i'm surprised he didn't chew it totally to pieces on the first day i gave it to him. hmm, i wonder which is better .. a short life & a quick, relatively painless death or a long life & a slow death, chewed apart limb by limb? fortunately, none of this matters since it's just a toy & doesn't actually feel any pain. *chuckle*

change table - 09:11 AM

ever since i've been able to remember, every baby change table i've seen, or more specifically every plastic covered item which gets used by a baby, the pattern printed on it has been really unattractive. when i'd seen them in people's homes (since until now i'd not spent much time in baby shops) i always wondered if perhaps they'd been given the item, thus not being able to choose one with a nice pattern or design on it, or else they simply had exceedingly poor taste.

now, however, i understand. when choosing a change table from the baby shop yesterday, no matter what the design was, there were a few choices: ugly, really ugly, or absolutely atrocious. so it's not because people have bad taste, it's a matter of choosing the least ugly one available.

shroom helped me put it together last night (i ended up getting one on a sturdy frame with a bath & two shelves underneath it) & when i mentioned how i went about choosing the pattern, he said that he did kind of think that the one i'd chosen wasn't all that nice. i told him, "trust me, it was the least ugly one there."

the one shown on the link above was not available. it looks quite presentable. my choices were cartoon animal faces with their sounds written in words below them, which was quite cute but the colours were not so great, another one which must have been ugly enough for me to block it out of my memory completely, & the one which i chose, which is called 'honeybear' & contains various shades of light brown & cream. not really my taste, but as i said, the least ugly of all of them. oh well, i don't think rudegere will care so much.
