i think i've just this very minute reached the point where my belly feels like it's kind of in the way. no offence to rudegere, but it'll be nice to get to the time where i'm able to put him down somewhere else, at least temporarily.

jade showed me a site where you can take a guess about rudegere, such as when he's going to arrive, boy or girl, weight, etc. so i've set up a game. you have to sign up to make a guess, but i've reviewed the privacy policy & it seems that they don't use your email address for anything other than to play the game.
to play, go here & enter the game name which is rudegere. have fun.
the chookies are well - 08:27 AM
the chooks are doing fine. when i went out there this morning, i braced myself to find them not so well, maybe feathers all over the place or perhaps poor still, little bodies, but all six are alive & well! yay! i'm not sure if they used the cardboard box which i put in there last night to sleep in or not, but they must have been cosy enough either way.
i couldn't hear them cheeping when i approached their shed, but i found out why .. they were busily tucking into their food.
they were a little bit frightened of me when i went in there & they ran & huddled into a corner, but i just stood quietly for a little while until they decided i wasn't a danger to them & they continued to eat.
mcgarnicle seems to really like them because he barked at the fence until i went back to let him in too. i put him on his lead to keep him under control & let him sniff them gently. again, he was more interested in their food, but i tried to discourage him from eating it. i can't imagine that it would hurt him, but it's not his food, so he shouldn't eat it. after a few minutes where he made no sudden movements toward the chicks at all, i let him off the lead & he walked around the shed sniffing at this & that & drinking some of their water. he came back periodically to smell the chicks & by this time they were becoming more used to him, too. they still huddled into the corner, but one or two didn't even put their backs to him, they stood there looking at him as he sniffed them. i think the dog & the chooks are going to get along fine.
once he'd lost interest, i stood right amongst them myself, letting them get used to my boots. i leaned down near them & touched them a little bit, then grabbed one or two gently & picked them up for a few seconds each, to get them used to me. they seemed to adapt very quickly. if i start bringing them something yummy to eat when i go there, like some vegetable scraps or some such thing, then i suspect that soon they'll not only not be frightened of me, but they'll come to greet me at the door.
i like chookies. they're so cool.
