cloth nappies - 12:48 PM

since i've decided to use cloth nappies (that's 'diapers' to you people with american accents. *wink* ) i've been doing some research on the net about them. i bought some normal flat nappies (terry towelling & flanellette) when i did my big baby shop a month or so ago, but i've been looking into shaped nappies too which, although expensive compared to flat nappies, seem to offer the convenience of disposable nappies without the super high cost financially & environmentally.

so far i've purchased one of each of three different types of shaped nappies just to check them out. two, so far, have arrived. they both look good, but i guess the way to tell what's going to work best for baby & i will be once rudegere actually arrives & we get to start testing them in real live, pooey situations. while in hospital i'll give the normal cloth nappies a try, just to compare & to practise folding them, as well as making it nice & easy since they'll be doing the washing, not me. *wink*

there seem to be so many options available in regard to storing & washing the dirty nappies. okay, well there are two basic options, really. putting them in a nappy bucket to soak, or what they call dry pailing, where excess solid poo is removed & the nappies are left relatively dry until you wash them.

i really love having the internet as a resource, because there's so much information out there for both options, on websites dedicated to the use of cloth nappies, as well as in forums where real mums are putting cloth nappies into action & telling other mums about their experiences & suggestions.

lucky baby - 11:58 AM

i was just talking to rudegere through my belly, telling him that he's lucky that he's got such a nice daddy. there are some daddies out there that aren't so good, but rudegere will have the best daddy in the whole wide world. *smile*

shroom's going to make such a great dad. he's so full of love. he's clever enough to know a lot, smart enough to earn good money to provide for rudegere, easy going enough to have fun, yet responsible enough to know what's important to make sure that rudegere grows up to become a good & kind adult. he's also fun to be with & will have lots of fun playing with rudegere. i'm really looking forward to seeing how shroom interacts with our child. *smile*

new links category - 09:53 AM

i've just added a new category to the links section: inspirational.

the first link i've put in there is a site called from chunk to hunk, about a guy, fred, who decided he wanted better from himself & his life & lost more than 170 pounds (about 77 kilograms) by changing his thinking. after much encouragement from others who were inspired by such a great change, he put his diaries into a book.

it's worth a look. pass the link on, especially if you know someone who might be inspired by his story. *smile*

i found the link at alicia's place.

chookies are doing well - 08:11 AM

i checked on the chooks this morning, as usual. they're doing well & growing at a rate of knots! i can see that they're bigger already since we brought them home last weekend. i'd say they're at least a few centimetres taller than they were. no wonder they eat so much if they're growing that fast.

i took the dog in there with me while i just hung around & watched for about fifteen minutes or so (interspersed with a bit of coughing & holding of sore ribs, ouch). they seem to be getting more used to him. they sometimes run away when he puts his nose near them & then he chases them a bit, but after the third or so time they'll just stand there while he sniffs them. if he's standing fairly still then they'll stand around under his legs & not seem to care that he's there.

mcgarnicle seems to really enjoy eating their chook poo. mmmmyummm .. *shudder* .. blah!
