old letterbox new letterbox - 09:26 AM

when shroom & i were married, one of the gifts we received from one set of friends was a gorgeous handmade letterbox, decorated to look like a little house, with a gekko on each side of the 'roof' done using tiles in the mosaic style. it's absolutely gorgeous.

we still have a bit of stuff left in one room of one of shroom's other houses (which is now being rented to family) which included the letterbox. we didn't want to put it up at that house because it's so pretty that we were afraid it would get flogged. in the area where the house is, it would have been very likely. now that we have our own house which we plan to stay in for a long time, we picked up the letterbox & plan to put it out the front.

however .. taking the old one off the post is going to prove tougher than i thought. i just had a look at it & it's held in place with a few good bolts. initially i thought it was just nailed onto some pieces of wood which are bolted to the main post, but there are some bolts there which need an allen (allan?) key to get them undone. i have a set of allen (allan?) .. *them* .. one of which fits, but they're rather large bolts & they're very tight. the funny thing though, is that i can't see the top of the bolts on the inside of the letterbox anyway.

i suspect that the only way we're going to get the old one off is to demolish it, bit by bit. i have a good solid hammer to try doing it with, but with all my strength going into making a baby, my attempts at hitting it were rather pathetic. lol! *chuckle*

i'm going to have to get shroom to have a go, or else we might have to buy a sledge hammer which i won't be able to manage at this point. hey, a decent sledge hammer never goes astray anyway. it can be another manly tool for shroom to use. like the axe we bought which he used to chop down one of the cocos palms in our yard (he love palms, but he hates cocos palms. they're too messy. not self-cleaning like alexandrias) & then made a running jump at it to knock it over, waiting, of course, until the car which was approaching along our street was in view to witness his heroic act .. rotfl! *chuckle*
