- (see all news for this day)

leukaemia - 10:19 PM

i just got off the phone with monica a few minutes ago. the news isn't good. brittany has leukaemia. *sad*

i can hardly believe it.

there are many positives amongst this horrible thing & that's all anyone can hang onto, so i'll tell them to you now. the treatment for the particular form of leukaemia she has (which mon can't remember at the moment. it's a long name & greg took the information thing home with him) has a very high success rate of 80 to 90%. the things going for her are that she's still young & that her kidneys & other internals are still working well. also, apparently, girls recover better from this than boys do.

she'll be in hospital for a month & monica's going to stay with her in the hospital that whole time. the treatment (chemotherapy) will be started the day after tomorrow & will go for two years.

kelsey (her big sister) is quite worried about her, of course. kelsey is a real girlie girl & one of her worries for brittany is the hair loss, which they say starts pretty much straight away. greg will take kelsey shopping to buy a nice soft hat for brittany to help her to stay pretty. seems like a small thing, but girls are taught from day one by society that they must look pretty, so to help her stay feeling pretty is a good thing & will help to keep her spirits up.

it's going to be a long haul. your thoughts & prayers for mon & greg & the girls will make a huge difference.

We'll keep them in our thoughts and prayers daily. Brittany does have so many factors in her favour, remember that as you support your sister and brother-in-law, and prepare for Rudegere's birth.

It's a relief to know there are that many reasons to hope for a good recovery. It will be two long years, maybe even more; my thoughts will be with them and everyone involved all that time.

I'm sorry to hear about your (neice's?) illness. It sounds like she has a very good support system and loving family. My prayers go out to Brittany and her family.

oh, c. ::hugs:: I can imagine how you're all feeling, both as a parent and an auntie. I'll keep hoping that all the treatments and love can help her to have a full and rapid recovery.

I'm so sorry to hear your news!. But keeps the postives in perspective, chances are she is going to get better! and the condition has been detected relatively early so the intervention should be successful. Maybe you could send her something from her Auntie Corri and Uncle Shroom and her baby cousin Rudegere! she'd love that i'm sure!.Best wishes xxoo

Saw your news on DTJam. Don't know you, but know that God answers prayer. I will pray for Brittany. Entertain only positive thoughts and give it to God. He'll come through.

In His love,

Loy

My heart breaks every time I hear something like this...You don't know me...I read you occasionally via Jade or Melanie. But this...cancer...is very personal for me. My nephew was diagnosed with cancer just before his 2nd birthday. He lost a kidney, some other tissue...endured chemo for two years as well and all it brings with it. He was give a 60/40 chance of survival. Today he plays baseball, has a wicked scar that he can't remember getting. He has no memory of the chemo. We are all changed.

My point? Children usually survive these things better than adults. My prayers are with your family for a full recovery and an easy as possible treatment.

April
