five quails - 02:12 PM

on the way home from the shops a little while ago, i saw some tiny little birds crossing the road. they ran across the road in that particular way that most birds don't run & immediately i wondered if they were quails. they ran down into the ditch at the side of the road & i thought they might still be there so i stopped the car to have a look.
as i came close to where they were, they ran away a bit, trying to get further away from me. if they hadn't moved, i don't think i would have seen them, because they were very well camouflaged against the dry grass. i counted five of them. they were a darkish brown with tiny white spots. they were so cute. they must be wild ones. it's the first time i've ever seen quails outside of a cage.
gosh, i love living where we're living!
