false labour - 03:10 PM

i thought that i was going into early labour this morning. i'm not yet due (i'm thirty-five weeks along), but close enough, in reality, to go into labour any time between now & forty weeks.

i woke up at about 5am feeling pains low down along with the usual tightness across my belly which is normal with the braxton-hicks contractions. i also had some lower back pain. i wasn't sure how often they were happening early on, because i was trying to stay asleep since i'd only gone to bed at 1am. i was fully awake by 6am & after tossing & turning for a bit more, got up to have a hot shower to try to ease the back pain.

i timed some of the early ones so that i could get an idea of whether they were coming regularly or not. from 6:32am to 7:15am they were eight, four, four, eight, six, five, & then eight minutes apart. so there were lots, but they weren't regualr by any stretch of the imagination. i rang the hospital after that to ask what they thought, because they definitely weren't just braxton-hicks contractions.

since we now live from forty-five minutes to an hour's drive away, their advice was to lie down & rest, & keep timing the contractions for another half an hour & then to call them back, rather than to rush in immediately. if they were getting closer together, becoming more intense, or more regular, then i should come in. they did continue, & i called them back, but since they still weren't at regular intervals (eight, six, three, two, three, four, six) they suggested calling my obstetrician to see what he thought. turned out he was in surgery, so i just timed them some more & eventually they subsided in intensity & regularity by about 11:30am.

shroom was up by that time (he'd had a big sleep in) & i told him all about it. he was amazed to hear the numbers & see how long i'd been having the contractions for.

i have been having some fairly intense braxton-hicks contractions since then, but nothing like what i was having this morning & only every now & then. the last time i had a similar experience, but on a much smaller level & for far less time, was when i'd also had not much sleep over the first night that i got this damn cold which has been hanging on. so my theory is that it was overtiredness. two nights of a 1am bedtime in a row is probably not the best idea for someone eight months pregnant, but hey, you get that .. *wink*

all's well that ends well, anyway, because the midwives i spoke to at the hospital said that they wouldn't necessarily try to stop labour at thirty-five weeks since it is early, but not too early for baby to be born. so i'm still happy but at the same time almost disappointed that i don't get to meet rudegere after all. he'll come when it's his time to come. *smile*

crikey. it's prolly just your body's way of reminding you to tske it easy and take care of you and rudy. plus it is not uncommon to have contractions from about this time i think, to help prepare your cervix and stuff.
you better start resting up for the real thing just incase, because let me tell you, it's very tiring *smile*

I wouldn't be surprised if you did deliver early. Especially if the baby is 'big'. Take is it easy.
