bottom wipes - 08:03 PM
today i made twenty-seven bottom wiping cloths out of the flat nappies which i bought a month or two ago. eighteen from terry towelling nappies & nine from flannelette. they turned out quite nicely, i think. not that they're terribly difficult to make, but still, i'm pleased with them. i did three layers of zig-zag stitching, folding the edge over once. i could have done just two passes of zig-zag, but since i was using coloured thread, three showed the colours better. i don't think baby will care, but if it amuses me just a bit (which it does), then it was worth the extra thirty seconds to go around a third time.
i made them the same size as the disposable wipes which i bought, so that they'll fit into the containers to be nice & handy & so i can either keep them wet with my own camomile tea bum wipe solution, or else wet them down a few at a time.
i'd like to make that many more again, i think, because depending on how often i wash, there might only be enough for one day at a time. i guess it depends on how grotty bubby's bum is at the time. time willing, i guess i'll make some more on friday.
We use Huggies wipes and I tend to tear them in half if it's just a wet nappy. You waste so many if you just scrunch them up. So it might be worth your while to make half sized ones too. Just a thought
