chicken pox - 05:15 PM
chicken pox seems to be going around lately. jade's little girl, stephanie, has it & now one of shroom's brother's kids has it too. they were both in contact with riley just under a week ago. i hope they weren't contagious at the time.
.. i'm going to have to keep an eye out for symptoms & if he shows any, take him to the doctor right away. they reckon it can be pretty bad if they get it really young.

Here they say that kids are contagious 2 weeks prior to the outbreak on their skin. When they break out, they are no longer contagious.
I sure hope Riley doesn't get them. Lin-si (http://www.chineselink.info) had them when she was 8 months and (sorry to tell) it wasn't nice. But the pharmacist has cooling balms that make it a bit bearable...
Hope it goes well.

that page you linked said that kids are contagious the day before the spots appear until they've all crusted over, and stephanie's only showed on saturday so hopefully that means riley is going to be good. if you are concerned about the chances you could always talk to riley's doctor about it to get more information or maybe get him vaccinated if he isn't too young..

I would do what Jade says if you aren't sure about the chances of him having caught it - I certainly hope he didn't. At this stage, you can never be too careful.

Chicken pox are normally contagious a week to 10 days before the actual lesions appear until all of the lesions have dried up. Seeing as you're breast feeding, that will give Riley a bit of a head start. The colostrom in breast milk helps provide the baby with some immunities. If he starts running a fever for unknown reasons, you can ask your doctor to run a varicella titer to see if he has been exposed.

the doctor told Jade that Steph was contagious for a week from when she first got the spots, which was last saturday. hopefully being a week earlier, she hadn't even come into contact with it her self by then.
