expressing - 12:09 PM
after a false start late last night when all i could get was a few drops, this morning i managed to express about 15 to 20 millilitres of milk from each breast. that's about one ice cube worth from each boob. i know that because i put it into an ice cube tray. you can keep freshly expressed breast milk frozen for three months, so that's why i put it there.
i've been planning to have some milk ready for shroom to use when we begin to teach riley to drink from a bottle. we both think it'll be nice for shroom to be able to give riley a feed or two sometimes, not only to give me a break if i need one, or to allow me to go out for more than an hour at a time, but just because it's nice to be able to feed him. it's a really lovely experience to feed a baby .. well, when it's your own it is.
they say you should wait until a breast fed baby is six weeks old before you start them on a bottle to avoid what they call nipple confusion. he's almost four weeks old (already!) so i figured i'd better practise expressing some milk & get some frozen for later.
That's a good idea, I did the same as I worked all day Sunday and it allowed hubby to feed Doc.. it meant me getting up at 2am/3am to express though, I found that by then my milk supply had built up, and *shrug* that's just how it came about... the more you feed Riley, the more milk you will make, that's the AMAZING think about breastfeeding! On a hot day eg, you will make more 'refreshing thirst' milk, aren't we mothers wonderful!
I say feeding any baby is awesome!! I love giving them their bottles!! and I can`t wait to be able to breastfeed!
your sucha good mommy Coralie, Im so proud of you....there are so many new moms that dont even breatfeed, its good to see someone do as i did (even if it was 15 years ago) it was because i loved my man and wanted him to be able to feed her too!!!! i wonder if i could get him now to fix her dinner?*sigh* i dont think so....hehe
Good on you Coralie. That pumping business can be a bit of a challenge but once you get the hang of it you'll be surprised how much you get.
I either find it easy or terribly hard. If I get a let-down it's easy and I'll fill a bottle, if not it's only a few mls.
