riley's given himself a few really good scratches just today. his nails have just been cut, so they're not even close to long, but i think he's getting stronger now, so when he flings his arms around & gets himself on the head or the face, he's gouging himself harder than he did before. he's not breaking the skin at all, just leaving some really impressive red lines. i'll be glad when he has more control of his hands & can avoid his face.
he worries me too, when he manages to grab his face in his little fingers right near his eyes & he gets so close to taking his eye out! just as well the blink reflex is just that, a reflex, or i'm sure many babies would have blinded themselves.
you could try getting him some scratch mittens but being summer it might not be practical for him to wear them..
gee, i always wondered what those little linen mitten-things were for.

I found with Sean that he'd always scratch himself after I cut his nails, I think it's because the edges are sharper. I know this sound ridiculously impossible, but maybe try filing them down a bit?
