on dvd - 10:26 PM
we just watched on dvd, double vision, or in its original language, shuang tong. it was a bit scary, but pretty good. it was a nice change from watching typical hollywood movies. if you see it at the video shop, it's definitely worth watching.
exploding nappy - 07:56 PM
well, we had the impressive vomit, now we've had the exploding nappy. as far as exploding nappies go, from what some have told me, this was pretty mild. i got a fair wack on my jeans leg, he managed to spread it down his own legs a bit & some on his socks. my jeans are now soaking in the washing machine. there's not much better to identify you as a mother than poo stains. lol!
friday five - 12:09 PM
the friday five. again, not on a friday, but hey, these things happen in farming:
1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
sometimes i like to shop. mostly i enjoy shopping for cameras, so obviously it doesn't happen all that often, despite my camera fixation since cameras aren't all that cheap. these days with a baby the budget doesn't stretch quite as far as it used to, so cameras & other toys aren't all that readily shopped for. any shopping which i do these days is usually something for riley, or something to make my life as a mum a little easier.
2. What was the last thing you purchased?
dinner & drinks out at the hen's night of a friend. if that doesn't count as shopping, then the time before that was groceries.
3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
online, for a few reasons. i don't have to leave the house, i can shop around for prices easily, i can find details about the item & opinions & ratings from other people as well. in a shop you have only the opinion of the person selling it to you & as if they're going to tell you the truth if it sucks.
4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
umm .. i think so. my sister & i got something like 20c when we were really young & it might have gone up as high as $5 by the time we were teenagers. it was a really long time ago, i can't remember it very well.
5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
i have to think about that one. most of the things i've bought these days i've been really pleased with. the only thing i can think of is a bottle of milk which dad bought when i arrived in melbourne which went off way before the use by date.
like a scene from the exorcist - 11:48 AM
(filed under 'baby')
i thought riley's previous big vomit was special, but yesterday at mum's he topped it in a big way. it was just like a scene from the exorcist except it was yellow-white flavour instead of green. he was sitting in his bouncy seat just looking around serenely. there was no build up, no warning, just "bleuuurrrgh! bleuuurrrgh!" & then "bleuuurrrgh!" again.
it wasn't just a dribble. it was three full on, absolute gushes! it kind of scared me, i was reduced to emitting a strained, "oh my gosh" & vainly trying to block the flow with a vomit rag, but he didn't seem worried in the slightest. a whole change of clothing was in order on that one, as well as a new spew rag & i even had to wash the cover of his bouncy chair. fortunately, i had his waterproof mat under him so only the tiniest bit got on mum's carpet. in fact, i was almost ready to go home & i was going to take the mat from under him to pack away, but thought better of it at the last moment.
after i got over the shock & cleaned him up, i was really glad that it hadn't happened in the car, or while i was holding him, or in a shopping centre or something.
mum said that my spews as a baby were even bigger than that. i was a refluxy baby from about three to six months & mum said that it would take a whole, full sized flat nappy to clean me up. i'm glad that riley doesn't have reflux.
chocolate milk - 07:26 AM
in response to a comment below, the recipe for instant chocolate milk just the way you like it:
- 1 large empty gherkin jar with lid
- 8 teaspoons of drinking chocolate of your choice (milo, cadbury's, whatever)
- dash of boiling water
- tap water
- cold milk, as much as you want
mix boiling water with drinking chocolate in jar until smooth. add tap water to fill to the top & mix. put on lid & refrigerate. when the desire hits, give it a good shake, pour an inch or so into the bottom of a glass, top up with cold milk, drink, enjoy.
