we just watched 'the core' on dvd. shroom thought it was really stupid (although i think he secretly enjoyed it) but i quite liked it. the only thing however, which made me lose respect for the movie was when the dude called rat was trying to hack into the usa defence network & he was getting access denied errors. they repeatedly showed the errors as 404. 404? please! 404 is a page not found error. an access denied error is a 403. any 14 year old net-head could have told them that. pah!
sad news about my aunty - 04:35 PM

i've just had some sad news from my dad about my aunty coral. she died. it was so sudden. she went into hospital on monday for a fairly routine operation to remove some tumours from her lungs & the operation went according to plan. she was doing well afterwards, even walking around. they checked on her at about 3am & she was all good. they checked again at about 4:30am & she was gone. just like that.
i'll be going to the funeral on friday to give my condolences to her husband, bob, & her two grown up children, lisa & brett. i don't get to see that part of the family very often, so i wasn't terribly close to them, but it's still very sad news. i feel for her family.

i had a rather bad scare earlier. i was at the shops & i had riley in the sling. i came to a set of about six or seven steps & stepped up to the first one. the toe of my shoe just tapped the edge of the step causing me to lose my balance a little bit. i recovered & managed to get my foot onto the step, but it had made me lose my equilibrium (for want of a better word) & i managed to trip twice more before i could reach the top of the stairs. i actually fell forward, with riley's head going straight for the hard tiles. i got my hand around the back of his head in time & managed to catch myself with my other hand, but not before i bumped my shin. it scared me quite a bit because riley's head came within about three inches of the hard ground.
if i had fallen all the way i think he would have been okay, if only frightened a little bit, because my hand was protecting his head & i believe that i would have somehow managed to flip myself around so that i landed on my side rather than on my front with him cushioning my fall. i don't want to think what might have happened if i hadn't had him held securely in the sling!
scared the bejeebees out of me, but he didn't even seem to notice. i gave him lots of kisses after that, even more than usual.

i just killed a spider so big that it made a sound as it scuttled along the floor down the hall. ordinarily, i'd leave them alone, especially since this one wasn't poisonous, but even the non-poisonous ones can bite & leave a big itchy welt. this one was big enough that if it had bitten riley, he may well have become quite sick from it. i didn't want to take the chance. i could have picked it up in an empty jar or something & thrown it outside, but no, i was not going to get closer than i had to. i'm telling you, it was huge. ergh!

i really must find the charger for the batteries for the little digital camera. then again, i could just stick two ordinary AAA batteries in it in the meantime ..
