i'd like to learn how to bake. can anyone suggest a fool-proof, easy, but delicious thing to start with?
.. preferably something which requires licking the beater clean .. lol!

This is a really really easy recipe, my kids make them alot and we also make them in the school kitchen too.
Queen cakes
4 ozs butter or margarine
4 ozs caster or granulated sugar
1 egg
6 ozs self raising flour
4 tbspoons of drinking chocolate granules
little cake cases and a tin which actually holds them.
(you can add chocolate chips too if you like but make sure you mix them in with the flour or they will sink to the bottom of the cakes)
Mix in the margarine and sugar, (best to melt the margarine in the microwave first only for about 10 seconds so that it is soft) then beat the egg in a seperate bowl and add a little at a time and fold it in so that the mixture doesnt curdle (fold by mixing right around in a circle once and then straight down the middle of the mixture). Then add the flour and the chocolate granules but again in parts or otherwise your cake will come out stodgy.
Put mixture into cake cases and cook for 20 minutes at 160 0C but dont open the oven during this time as the cakes will sink in the middle. When you do eventually check them just gently touch the tops to see if they are springy, if so they are ready. you can cover them with butter icing and sweets to to make them even more yummy.
Icing sugar mixture.
1 oz butter
3-4 oz icing sugar
a tblspn boiling water.
mix in well until you have a creamy topping and spread ontop of the cakes
Then before you do the washing up (or you could get shroom to do that for you) you can lick out the bowl, mmmmmmmmmm. Hope you do try. I have a brilliant recipe for donuts too if you would like that, its the hazards of working as a catering assistant, I have so many recipes its unbelievable. Hope you enjoy, let me know how you get on if you do do them.

I couldn't be bothered doing a link to my blog so just cut and pasted this recipe for you. It's easy peasy!
Chocolate Whizz Cake
2 Cups Sugar
3/4 cup Cocoa
3 cups self rising flour
2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup sour milk (add a squeeze of lemon juice to make sour)
200g soft butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1 cup boiling strong coffee
Put all ingredients into a bowl and beat for 1 minute. (Alternatively put it all in a food processor instead, that's what I do!) Put mixture into a lined or greased cake tin and bake for 1 hour at 160 degrees celcius.
Yum!
P.S. Little tip, when lining the cake tin with baking paper put a little bit of butter on the side of the paper that will be against the tin so it holds there. That way you don't have to worry about holding baking paper in place when you're tipping the mixture in.
Oops, another long comment.
