We were told 4-6 months to start solids. We tried around 5 months and that didn't really work, a couple of weeks later he was ready for it.
I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't rush into it, for Riley and for you. It's another job for you to do and I felt like it tied me to the house more as we had meals to worry about.
He could be having a growth spurt or making up for the hot weather and drinking lots.

If it's any help, my GP mentioned that bigger babies respond well when started earlier (at 4 months) because they really need the extra calories.
I know there is differing advice everywhere on the subject so as always I believe it's best to trust your own instincts.
James fits the "big" category but he isn't all that keen as yet. Nothing has really sparked his interest but I'm persevering.
He seemed to really enjoy apple custard today so guess what he's getting all week
Baby rice cereal is nice and bland. I think that it's just matter of getting them used to the different consistency more than anything else and making sure their little digestive systems are eased into it.
Baby food is not exactly a taste sensation , at least to begin with...

i think that our (australian) doctors say that you can try stuff from around 4 months if the kid seems ready. i think some other places say you shouldn't give anything but milk until 6 months.
we started putting rice cereal in stephanie's milk about 4 months, because she was just drinking so much. we did try her on actual food smushed up but she didn't care much for it then. i think when we went to england, when she was about 5 months, is when she started really chowing down on the food.. before that it was more of a novelty.
if you think he might be interested soon you could ask your doc for an opinion too. there are certain foods you shouldn't give them straight away, but i can't remember what
