sitting up - 06:38 PM

smiley's practising sitting up. he sits up leaning on one hand, then gives himself a little push & throws both hands outwards & balances, wobbing, on his bottom for a second or two before rolling over backwards. it's very cute.

since he's become more mobile (although he's doing most of his travelling via rolling around at this stage) i've had to keep him with me if i'm doing something at the other end of the house for more than a couple of minutes, so on two occasions today he was on the lino floor instead of the softer carpet. he did okay, but managed to get his first two head bumps.
the first one he fell backwards from a sitting position & got the wall .. & the second one he rolled over onto his tummy & failed to hold his head up as he rolled & headbutted the floor. they weren't terribly hard bumps, just enough to give him a fright more than anything. he only cried for about five to ten seconds with each one. he's a tough little bugger.

smiley's been sleeping heaps the last couple of days. he had a good couple of naps yesterday afternoon when he normally doesn't, & today he went back to sleep in the morning for two hours or so. he's sleeping now too, which is very rare. i wonder if it's because he's teething? maybe his body is working very hard getting the teeth moving. either that or it could because he's trying so hard at crawling. it must be very tiring for such a little body.

the rain's getting a bit heavier, but there's only a normal amount of wind high up in the trees at the moment. we'll see ..
wild winds - 11:02 AM

apparently we have some wild weather coming our way today. cyclonic winds, in fact. from what i've heard they could be as fast as 130 to 160 km/hour winds (that's around 80 to 99 miles). there's been gently falling rain on & off this morning, but no winds yet. our next door neighbour just came around though to warn me that she'd seen it on the news again confirming that it's going to hit our area. i was told about it last night as well, so i'd already removed anything from outside that could be carried by a strong wind. i hope the chooks will be okay.
i wonder when the winds will hit.
