australian sign language - 12:11 PM
we can't really afford it, but since it's something for riley's development, i feel as though it's justified. i've just ordered the auslan (australian sign language) dictionary on cd.
years ago my sister & i went to classes to learn it & we quite enjoyed it. we don't have anyone in our family who is deaf, but we thought it might be interesting & it was. we've forgotten most of it, unfortunately, but my reasons for getting it on cd now are so that i can teach some of the signs to riley.
they (the ubiquitous 'they') reckon that it's good for babies' development & helps them to be less frustrated when they're old enough to express what they want, but can't yet vocalise it.
the double bonus, of course, is that i can refresh my memory of auslan & maybe even learn more than i used to know. i managed to use it once in a real life situation when i was working as a shop assistant, but all i could sign was, "i've forgotten most of it. i learned it so long ago!"
i'm like you. i knew the alphabet once, but forgot most.
