there's now a lovely vacant spot in the corner of our bedroom, where previously, there was a really large pile of clothes & bags of clothes which had been sitting there for about six months, maybe longer! when mum asked me what i wanted for my birthday, she originally suggested an item of clothing, but i had so much that i already didn't or couldn't wear anymore, that i really didn't want more just to add to the pile. so i asked if, for my birthday, mum would help me clear away the pile. it's one of those jobs which can take a while (& a fair whack of emotional investment) but with having to stop every two minutes to look after riley it would take even longer.
so now it's all done! mum wasn't much good for being as ruthless as i wanted to be, but eventually she came around & we filled a whole garbage bag with clothes for charity & a small bag with stuff that was to be binned.
an excellent birthday present: time & an extra pair of hands! 
not to mention that she also gave me $50 cash to spend on whatever i like. she suggested putting it toward another set of drawers to hold the overflow of clothes. not a bad idea at all.
