the rat saga continues - 09:44 PM

it seems our rat wasn't as easily beaten as we thought. it must have been able to find its way into the ceiling &/or wall (which is no big surprise, really) & is now chewing away on the new insulating/sealing stuff which the air con guy pumped in to replace the stuff the rat destroyed. we can hear it munching away rather loudly. they reckon the insulation stuff has a taste animals don't like, but this rat doesn't seem to be deterred by it at all. bugger. i hope it doesn't find its way back into the air conditioner too quickly.

looks like we're going to have to buy a trap or some baits after all.

i just put a new true story online. it's a pretty dicky story. in fact, i should probably be embarrassed about it. i recalled the situation the other day & thought how silly i was & that i should include it as one of my true stories .. so i did. eh.

an air con repair man came today to look at the air conditioner to see what damage the rat had done. he reckoned that if we'd left it for another couple of weeks, the rat would have chewed through a very important bit which is not replaceable. it had already started chewing on it. if it had eaten through it, then that's it, the whole unit would have to be replaced.

so he sealed up both ends of the thing which the wires run through from the outside of the house to the inside of the air conditioner. we didn't set any traps or baits or anything (which i wasn't keen to do anyway) since the rat wasn't in there & can't get back in anymore.

shroom said that he was running very late, but that he actually called to say he was running late. i said to shroom that he can't have been a proper tradesman! must be the first time a tradesman has ever showed that much consideration.

you might be getting a different ad, but i'm really getting sick of the 'hot chocolate mugs' ad on the front page which has been an almost permanent fixture for a few days (at least it seems that way). maybe i need to write a news entry that includes more interesting words such as colloquialism, asymtotic, retromingent & merkin.
