non-squirming baby - 07:40 AM

i think i need to give smiley more credit for being able to learn things. i think he's clever, of course, but the thought didn't occor to me to try to teach him, umm, what would i call it, behavioural things, perhaps.

a few days ago, i was telling my friend, martelle, how hard it is to change riley's nappy lately, because he'd squirm & wriggle & roll over & try to crawl away. she said that her littlest one was the same until she told her to "lie still for mummy" & would gently hold her down. it hadn't occurred to me to try this.

after only about three times of doing it (with some small struggles trying to get him to stay in a lying position. he's quite strong) he would lie there for me nice & calmly, with perhaps only a small reminder, "lie still please, riley" & a hand touching his chest. babies really are very clever. *smile*
