since i've not been on my computer all day because of these problems, i haven't been able to check email. i am also, at this stage, unable to get to the data on my data drive, so i won't be able to check email until then. could be tomorrow night until i can. so if you've sent me email & i haven't replied, that's why.

yep. i'm definitely cursed. shroom has spent the better part of twelve hours today fixing the proxy server (which is the computer i've been using since mine died a few days ago) as well as trying to get my old one working again. he plugged it in at his desk to try to have another go at fixing it & it was all good! but then it died again. he thinks it really is a lost cause, this time. his prognosis is the processor. it seems to be overheating.
as for the this computer i'm now using (the proxy machine) the hard drive died on it this morning. he's since had to rebuild it twice since something went weird with it the first time.
i'm not going to jinx myself again by saying that it's all going well. let's just leave it at, "it hasn't died again, yet."
shroom's very good to me to get in there & fix it so quickly.
