i had a linen party a few weeks ago & mum bought smiley something from their range: a large play mat with bright letters & numbers & shapes all over it. it's very sturdy & i think if we look after it, it'll last a lifetime. it's made like a carpet, with rubber backing. i guess this is comparable to his old play mat, but to ecourage even further development.
obviously, the letters & numbers are a little past an almost eleven month old, but it's never too early to start. mind you, his old play mat is still a hit, even if he fills up the space under it a tad more than all that time ago.
