recognising shapes & using the words - 09:58 AM
(filed under 'baby')
we have a book for smiley which is all about shapes. on one page there's a big cut out shape which has a sparkly coloured shape inside it. on the opposite page there is a picture which has a smaller version of that shape as a part of the picture. for example, 'oval' has a girl painting eggs & there's a smaller cut out sparkly version of the oval shape as one of the eggs.
one of the pages is 'circle'. a few days ago when i was reading the book to him, i was sure that he was trying to say 'circle'. it came out more like "gurgle" but it has the same syllables & a similar sound. i thought maybe i was just being the over proud parent but he's said it now a number of times & always when we're on that page of the book.
he tried to say 'star' just now, too. he got the 'st' sound.
he can also point to the shape within the picture. it's not an accident. he's done it a number of times & he always points right at it.
my clever little boy.
