smiley has been doing two cute things lately. one i've already mentioned, talking on the toy phone, but he did some very cute things with that just yesterday or the day before. he pauses when he's 'chatting', waiting for the other person to respond. another time made me almost wet myself laughing. he was chatting away on the phone & stopped for a moment, then laughed at what the 'other person' was saying. it was so, so very cute.
he also likes to read on his own sometimes. he picks up something with writing on it & runs his finger along the words as he 'reads' out loud what they say. 
dave said "i guess he pays attention how mom acts. sounds like he's mimicking you."
that's why he's so smiley!!
I don't know how common such mimicing is, but it does show he's a very good learner.
Oh, and really cute
he could be talking to family memebers who are gone, if you believe in ghosts that is...
