smiley has a book with pictures of objects representing each letter of the alphabet. of course for 'c', there is 'cat'. he points to the cat a fair bit. sometimes i've told him that a cat says, "meow!"
just now he pointed at the cat & made a cat noise. so cute! 
he's made a kind of dog noise before when i've been playing with one of his dog toys & made it bark, but this is the first time he's recognosed a picture & made the noise.

over the last couple of days smiley has held my hand. it was only from the kitchen to the lounge room & once last night in the front yard, but even those few times were excellent. this is the first time he's allowed me to hold his hand while walking. first times ever.
he's always been really independant & would pull his hand away when you tried to hold it to guide him. it means i've never been able to put him down in the street to walk beside me because he would simply have run onto the road or whatever. i haven't tried it on the street yet, but i might soon. mind you, i think he's only going to allow it for a few seconds at a time.
