after doing so well for the first fifteen months of his life, i finally accidentally dropped smiley off the edge of the bed twice in one week.
the first time was new years day at about 2am or so at shroom's parents' place in their spare bedroom. i woke when he left my arms & i heard the soft 'splat' as he hit the floor. he really did make a splat noise. it wasn't a long drop as the bed is fairly low to the ground. he hardly woke up, even as i lifted him back into bed. i don't even know how he ended up on that side of me, because i started out with him in the middle of the bed on my other side.
the second time was a few days ago here at mum's place in her spare bedroom. smiley actually kind of dropped himself off the side. in his night squirms he managed to move to the top corner of the bed past the pillow i'd placed between the bed & the wall & ended up with his legs in the air & his head stuck under the bed frame as he'd turned it sideways after it had slipped through the gap. i had to remove the pillow while hanging onto his arm with one hand. when the pillow came out he slipped most of the way down to the floor with me still hanging on & i had to push the bed further away from wall to get him back up. again, he was fine.
on both occasions, i think i was far more concerned about it than he was. he mostly only let out a few little squeaks & then went straight back to sleep.
he probably never really woke up. hanging upside down while stuck between the bed and the headboard. that must have really confused him. but mom was there, all is right with the world.
I wish you'd gotten video footage of that second one - I have an idea in my head of what it looked like, but I'm not completely sure I have it right....
