dust buster broken & fixed - 02:41 PM

i rule! i am such a legend!

heh. i'm so pleased with myself because i just fixed our dustbuster. yesterday it fell onto the floor from its charging bracket which is attached to the side of a cupboard. the bottom fell off & after finding the little lever which locks & unlocks it, i managed to put the battery cover back on.

just now i wanted to use it but it wouldn't switch on, so i pulled it apart to see if there was anything obviously wrong with it.

the switch seemed to be a bit jammed, but after that was fixed it still wouldn't turn on. i looked closer, & under the switch, one of the three contacts had bent upwards & wasn't making contact with the bit it was meant to touch unless you pushed the switch downwards, which wasn't possible while the cover was on. i got the switch off (without even breaking anything else) & bent the little prongle back into the correct position.

once almost back together, i tested it again & saw that the fan on the motor was stuck out a bit far & was jamming on the inside of the case as it spun, so i pushed it back into place.

i tested it again, screwed it all back together & voila! as good as new. *smile*

see? i told you i rule. riley has the cleverest mummy in the world. *grin* *wink*

That's so cool! I wanted to be all achievement-y last week too by changing a tyre by myself, but I couldn't and it was cold, so I got the insurance company to send someone down for me while I baked cookies in the kitchen. A huge tow truck in the street just to change a tyre. I told my family that I did it myself (ahem) I think they believe me for the most part but my Dad is a bit suspicious. I don't blame him, I can hardly change my own mind, sometimes. lol. Congrats again!

There was a time a while back when my ex broke the refridgerator (she was in a serious downhill phase at the time).
It took a bit to get things cleaned up, and another day to find parts to fix the icebox. Then there was the dent in the floor of the kitchen... *grrr!*

You Rock Ferrous---but we all knew that.

I must admit that in light of your past undertakings, I'm not as overwhelmed by this one as I might be. Lest we forget, there was a time that you wired up your whole house with webams to broadcast your daily life onto the Internet---INCLUDING figuring out how to get one of the cams to pick up infer-red light so you could be seen at night while you slept without having regular light keep you awake. Now that, my friend, was an impressive piece of technological achievement. (Well, it impressed me anyway.)
