it's been a while since i blogged. it's such a pain in the bum to do internet at the library that it's been a while since i've even been able to check email, too. i can do updates from home & then take them on floppy to the library (as i'm doing now) but that's also a pain in the bum as the electricals in the house are a bit touchy. if we have the air conditioner on in the lounge room, i can't use my computer at the same time. they're plugged into the same power board, you see, & it trips the overload thing after a short amount of time.
we have a similar problem with anything in the kitchen, except that it trips the switch in the fuse box outside the house. if i use the kettle or the toaster, or in fact, anything plugged into one of the wall outlets in the kitchen, while the air conditioner is running, then i end up having to go outside to reset the switch.
to avoid this problem, i have to turn off the air conditioner while i run any of those appliances. this means using the computer really early on in the day before it gets too hot. some days it reaches almost 30 degrees centigrade (i have no idea what that is in farenheit since i can't check online) before 9am, so if smiley's not agreeable, then i simply don't get a chance to get on my computer.
one of my new friends, jess, came over for morning tea the other day. she has a gorgeous little boy only ten weeks old. he's very cute. i'll be going to her place on wednesday for morning tea. my other new friend, denise, i'll be seeing at playgroup tomorrow. i would have seen her last week at playgroup except that smiley & i were still sick, & we were planning to catch up the week before for morning tea, except that was when smiley came down with the flu.
speaking of the flu, we're all better now, much to everyone's relief.
hmm, what else is there to tell?
the phone. we still don't have the phone on. that's kind of obvious, since i'm still doing blog updates from the library. if we had the phone on, we might also have our internet access back & i'd be doing this from home. it's bugging the hell out of me not having a phone. i've been trying to not make calls, but our mobile phone bill is going to be huge. i've only spoken to my family about twice each since we've been here. it's hard to not be able to call them whenever i want. with no phone, no internet & no close friends nearby, i feel just a tad isolated. let's hope the company who fix the phone problems at the college here get their bums into gear quickly. i'm seriously considering sending them our mobile phone bill to pay. i haven't even been able to change any addresses yet since i've been trying to avoid making unnecesssary phone calls.
i've been making some really nice jewellery for sale, except with the lack of internet connection i haven't been able to put any online. rather annoying. i want to spread the word around here that i make jewellery & maybe even see if i can set up at a local market. i haven't done any research into the local markets around here yet though. another thing i can't really do until we have the phone on.
aside from my complaints about no phone & the electricity issues (as well as some minor house issues which i haven't bothered to go into, like leaking taps, no curtains, dodgy shower head etc) we're really liking it here. shroom likes the job & feels that he'll be happy here for a while. all good news. 
the power stuff doesn't sound good though. I hope they get that fixed up.
