fireworks tonight - 04:49 PM
as part of the sunflower festival which has had various events over the past two weeks but had its main happenings this weekend, there's stuff going on at fairbairn dam, such as fireworks tonight. we're not sure what time they're on, because the events calendar just says 'evening'. i'm thinking maybe we'll leave here at about 6pm. it's not a long drive, only about fifteen to twenty minutes.
it also says there were stalls & live music 'all day'. i'm guessing the stalls will be gone by the time we get there & if the guide's accuracy is anything to go by so far, then the stalls might have proven to be just one stall anyway. heh.
the fireworks could be nice. it'll be good to have a little trip out, regardless. i'm pretty sure smiley has seen fireworks before, but it might have been a while ago, so it'll be interesting to see how he likes them.
shroom said something pretty funny to me under his breath yesterday while we were watching the parade & attending the race meet for the children's rides, which turned out to be far smaller than we'd expected: "this is way better than piss weak world!" rotfl!!
despite our apparent scorn, we really do like emerald. it's nice here .. small parades & all.

jumping castle - 11:29 AM
yesterday morning, before the rodeo, the sunflower parade was on through the streets of town, ending at the race track where they were to have a horse race. we didn't stay for the racing, but turned up early to take smiley on the "children's rides" which were advertised in the little booklet with the calendar of events.
the "children's rides" plural turned out to be more of a "children's ride" singular, since there was only a jumping castle. well, there were two jumping castles in the same set up, so i suppose they were technically correct.
anyway, i wanted to take smiley on the jumping castle before the parade got there & thus all the other kids arrived, making it too rough for him to go on. i asked the man attending them if i could go on with smiley & he agreed. he was going to charge us two $3 tickets but changed his mond & only charged us one. i was glad since he's still too little to go by himself so we didn't really have a choice but to go on together.
it was great fun! i do admit that i had alterior motives when i wanted to take him on the jumping castle. i hadn't been on a jumping castle since i was a kid myself.
it had a huge, quite steep slide in the middle & you had to climb up a rope netting thing up the back of it to get to the top. i went down with smiley on my lap the first couple of times, but then once i saw it was safe enough & smiley knew what was going on, i sent him down first & then followed.
he had almost as much fun as i did. it'll be a pity that when he's old enough, i won't have the excuse to go on. *chuckle*
