a market stall? - 06:55 PM
next weekend i'll be going to the local markets in emerald. i'm going for two reasons. one, because i like going to local markets to see all the arts & crafts. two, because i'm going to check it out in regard to having my own stall there to sell the jewellery i've been making.
i'm really looking forward to it. i've been making some nice stuff, just lately (well, i think so, anyway) & i really do think that it's saleable, so as long as i think there's a niche there at the market for me, the following month (they're on the first sunday of every month) i may just have a stall! very exciting.
i'd show you some pics of what i've been making, but the camera battery has been playing up as well as i've simply not had a chance to lay them out nicely & take pictures that would do them justice. i really need to find some decent white fabric or a white background of some description that i can use to put behind my pieces. i won't display a pic of them publically unless it's going to show them in the best light.
new category: reviews - 06:50 PM
i've just added a new category to my front page here: reviews. it could be a review of almost anything that is publically viewable such as movies, books, concerts, galleries. whatever, you know?
i've just used it by telling you what i thought of the movie version of bridget jones: the edge of reason.
bridget jones, the edge of reason - 06:47 PM
(filed under 'reviews')
a while ago i read the sequel to the first bridget jones book. when i heard that they were going to make a movie of it, i was quite excited, because i quite enjoyed the first movie. in fact, i read the first book after i saw the first movie.
when i saw some of the promotional things about the movie & saw that they'd included the daniel cleaver character, who most definitely does not make an appearance in the book, i was really disappointed & thought they'd kind of 'sold out'. i almost made a vow to not watch the second movie because i was that annoyed.
however, we just saw it on dvd & i'm pleased to say they actually did a nice job of inserting him into the story line without totally changing it, so i'm not that disappointed after all.
it was a pretty good movie. don't take my word for it though, because i'm a bit of a movie slut. i'll watch almost anything. mind you, it was definitely much better than starship troopers 2.
the fireworks at the dam - 10:03 AM
we went to see the fireworks last night. we didn't actually make it to the dam in time to see them from there, because we thought they would be later in the evening than they were.
we ended up stopping at the side of the road about five minutes drive before the actual dam, so that we could watch them. we got out of the car & stood there holding smiley, looking & listening.
he seemed to quite like them. if we were closer he may have been scared of the noise, but i suspect not. i'm glad we got out of the car, because if i'd kept driving, we would have been around the other side of the hill & wouldn't have seen a thing.
after we watched them, shroom said we should just turn around & go home because it would all be over, but i actually wanted to go in anyway to see if anything else was going on. we did start driving home, but i was really disappointed to not see anything, even if there was going to be nothing to see, if you know what i mean.
after driving back toward home for a few minutes he realised how much i really wanted to go there & we turned around again & headed all the way to the dam.
i'm glad we did, because there was still stuff going on. there was a live band & there was still some food. we sat on the grass in front of the band & ate our burgers & then i took smiley up to the front of the band where there were some kids dancing & we danced together.
he got bored after a bit & wanted to wander around, so i followed him around the side & back of the big truck on which the band was performing. he enjoyed waondering around like that.
we didn't stay for all that long, but i glad we turned around to come back. it was nice. it was actually bigger than we expected & there were quite a number of people there. we did pass lots of people leaving when we headed there once the fireworks were over, so it must have been quite busy before they all left.
still gherkin boy - 09:19 AM
smiley really likes gherkins. he tried them for the first time almost a year ago when he was about seven months old & he liked them then, but just recently he's been getting into them like there's no tomorrow.
he goes to the fridge to ask for a gherkin at least five times a day. i usually only give him half, since he tends to eat a bit & then discard the other part, half chewed, onto the floor. it wouldn't be such an issue if mcgarnicle liked gherkins, too, because he'd clean up after him, but he doesn't, so they lie there, camouflaged against the carpet, waiting for some unsuspecting person to step on them.
no more separate diary? - 09:05 AM
i think i've decided not to have a separate diary section anymore. since i had to write updates from home while i was using the internet at the public library, i was tending to write fairly long news entries anyway & just use the 'read the rest' feature after a kind of introductory paragraph or two as i've done with this entry.
to tell the truth, i'm not really sure why i felt i had to have a news page & a diary section anyway. i'm sure there must have been a valid reason at the time, but now it just seems to be more trouble than it's worth.
i used to send out notifies of the diary because they were always quite long & (sometimes) informative & then people who didn't check my front page regularly would get an email telling them the diary had been updated, but since i've not been able to use my own email client for one reason or another for quite a long time, sending out the notifies has not been possible.
it's been a really long time since i wrote a diary entry anyway. in fact, the last one was october of last year!
i won't get rid of the entries which are in there, i'll leave them as is, but i might just have one diary archive link in the main menu on the front page, rather than the small list of (not so) recent entries which is currently there.
time for a change, i suppose. make life easier & less complicated for myself. i suppose those who want to keep up with the major events of my life will just have to sort through the news items one at a time to find the so-called important things.
me being me, the little things in my life hold just as importance as the big things anyway, so why not keep them all in the one place, hey? *shrugs*
sore underarm - 08:33 AM
i've been sore under my right arm for a couple of days. it's really weird. it goes from the underside of my arm from halfway up to my armpit, all the way down, stratching around to the back a little bit, to about where my bra sits.
it's a skin thing & feels almost like a rash or a chemical burn, but there's nothing to see, no redness, no swelling, no spots or anything to indicate that there's any trauma to the skin. it's really bizarre.
it doesn't hurt a lot, but i can feel it especially when i move my arm & the sore parts rub against my shirt or my skin.
it's so odd that i can't see anything there, because for the life of me it really does feel like some sort of mild skin trauma. i shaved my armpits recently before i noticed the discomfort, but i'm sure that's nothing to do with it, because if it was, you'd think the other one would be sore, too. also, the sore bits stretch further up & down from where the underarm hair was shaved away.
i put a bit of papaw ointment on it last night & it kind of helped in the way that it might help a graze (you know, it sort of stopped it rubbing so much when i moved my arm) but it doesn't seem to be any different this morning. very odd.
if it continues, i suppose i'll see someone about it, but i'm not sure what i can show anyone since there's nothing to see. *shrugs* strange. very strange.
