waste of water - 03:31 PM

our neighbours leave their sprinklers on for about twenty-four hours at a time. they're just watering the lawn. yes, their yard looks a hell of a lot better than our own brown front yard, but it seems such a waste of water just for a lush lawn. it is dam water from the college's own dam, but we're in a drought, so wasting water is still wasting water as far as i'm concerned, even if it is water from your own land.
i will stand corrected if someone can tell me that watering solidly for a whole night & day once a week uses water more efficiently than watering for just a couple of hours every second day. it might make sense that it would be more waterwise .. but still, i think i'd prefer just to have a brown lawn.
they could at least move the front sprinkler so that it's not watering so much of the road. 
really deep watering is more waterwise than a couple of hours at a time. but that doesn't get over the fact that there is a drought, and green lawns should be the first thing to go!
if they really want green lawns there are things they could do to may less water keep the ground wetter. maybe the agriculture dept should go talk to them
i see a lot of businesses that have timed sprinklers. most of them sprinkly onto the road. what is even more silly is that it comes on during rain storms. now that's stupid.
