chicken mince - 07:05 PM
well, i got the garlic chicken mince for the dog.
i bought a whole carton full, i.e., about 20 kilograms (approx 44 pounds). it was bagged, but each bag was around a kilo, give or take, so i had to split them into two bags of half a kilo or so each. wow. that was a huge job.
i hate dealing with raw meat, but at least i didn't have to put my hands right into it. instead, with each bag, i squished it up into a kind of big fat cylinder & then wrapped my thumb & forefinger around the middle of it kind of strangling the bag & turning it into what looked like some grotesque raw meat snowman with a big head. i took a freezer bag & wrapped my hand in it & then put that inside the full bag to take out the snowman's head, peeling off its freezer bag scalp as it went to get it into the new bag.
then i had to flatten out the contents of each bag. this makes it nice & skinny so that it'll defrost a little more quickly when we put it outside for the dog to eat. we don't bother defrosting it before we give it to him. we just dump it outside in the yard & he eats it when he's ready. aside from the fact that there's never enough room in the fridge for a slab of dog meat (& that it's kind of gross to put it in there with all of the human food) most of the time he takes it away & buries it under some leaves somewhere anyway, so there's certainly no point in serving it up to him on a plate with a sprig of parsley.
my back & arms are a bit sore now from doing all that meat. it took about an hour! okay, maybe forty-five minutes, but it was long enough, either way.
thank goodness that's done for another forty or so dog dinners.

okay, so i won't ask you to go fishing if you won't man-handle the worms yourself.
